Title: George Rayner
Post by: tommy toes on July 14, 2010, 09:35:39 am
Interesting article about George in this months Four Four Two magazine. It describes his taking Sweden to two World cups, including the 1958 final and how his name is still revered over there. Also mentions his time in Italy with Lazio and bemoans how he was ignored over here.
Says he was manager of Skegness Town but no mention of his best contribution in English football, ie setting up the team that McMenemy took to the Div 4 Championship in '69/70.

I remember him at BV with fondness. Great manager, nice bloke.
Sadly missed, I wonder how George Raynor would have coped with life in the Championship if he was around today ?.
Not many know this, but he was a South Yorkshire born lad aswell.
