Sorry lads and lasses having all sorts of 503 system errors.

Still 0-0. Significant that Brooker on the bench.

Clark is playing full back and Grandison in midfield. Hammering it down but they say the lads look brilliant in the new home kit.

First strike on goal from Shiels. Corner.

Out for a GK.

Have to say Grandison didn't look up to much on Saturday.  But the team we have out should be good enough really.  Same old on the set piece isn't it?

This isn't good for our preparations...getting knocked out at this stage deprives us of two more games against half decent opposition. And there's no way that Barnstaple will beatHavant surely so we're heading out if this stays the same.

The game at Preston is the one that matters,up until then its trial and error and getting fit.

My mate, who is at the game, has heard that we were going to withdraw from the tournament tomorrow anyway- citing injuries and the issue over substitutions. I doubt we'll be signing up for any more tournaments in future!

He also says Rovers have been dreadful, especially in midfield.

Perhaps we haven't been very professional about this comp. all the other teams only have 3 subs as well.
Blackpool seemed to be up for it and can handle it despite starting in the Prem. a week after us. I'm gutted for our fans who made the effort to travel. Losing on purpose in a Cup comp. however meaningless doesn't seem to be our style.
Ffs we must have read the rules before going..........didn't we ? If we wanted to withdraw as has been suggested then at least go out on a win.

Title: Re:Rovers v Havant & Waterlooville
Post by: big fat yorkshire pudding on July 21, 2010, 08:55:06 pm
Let's remember that the rules were changed thanks to the FA on Saturday, something SOD is not at all happy about.  Listening to the commentary the team that is playing has injuries and illness and doesn't look at all like it's bothered about staying in the competition.

I don't think we are, I think we have a few knocks and the players aren't 100%. Plus combine that with a crap pitch then I think we are finding it hard.

How is doing what Blackpool did 'losing on purpose'? I'd say that's a combination of SOD's frustration & injuries plus the attitude of 'well they did it and got away with it, so we'll do it too'.

We aren't losing on purpose but clearly the team isn't bothered, doesn't wanna get injured and knows we're going home anyway.

This is not right, I don't care how good a Blue Square South Conference side H&W are, if Rovers cared about winning this comp. there is no way this scoreline would happen. Something has happened to change Rovers whole attitude towards this comp.

I've questioned the wisdom of entering this comp. from day one, and now it seems we have the very reason for my concern in the first place, knocks, and injuries, along with a disenchanted manager because of rule changes. A complete recipe for \"F**k it, let's get the flock outa here\".
Title: Re:Rovers v Havant & Waterlooville

Title: Re:Rovers v Havant & Waterlooville
Post by: DonnyBazR0ver on July 21, 2010, 09:39:32 pm
Games are games and players need minutes. Unfortunately, some players have played more minutes than SOD wanted.

I'm sure he will have learned more about the triallists, Dumbuya, Friend etc, and helped him decide if we need to bolster any areas. Plus gave Brooker a chance to get on.

Now it's about real preparation and scouting what's available in the transfer market or, make a few calls to call those loan players in.

Post by: keyser_soze on July 21, 2010, 10:19:15 pm
crikey, never seen so much gnashing of teeth at the result of a friendly!

in SOD we trust. all that matters here is how the team line up against Preston. I seriously doubt Sean will have thrown the game, but if he's told the team to avoid challenges or similar then he's got a reason for doing so. if he doesn't fancy the 2 extra games, then fair enough.

no injuries, some field time for Brooker, and a decent assessment of the trialists would be a far better result from this tournament than winning it. fans take their chance, these are friendly games after all!

Told you all that Havant are a decent little side. ;)

In all fairness, injuries to players, fatigue, homesickness, etc, have all probably paid a huge part in this result. At least for the players this nightmare is now over and they're coming home. Importantly, we now have six days rest before our next friendly.

Fair play and congratulations to Havant for beating us so convincingly this evening. Take nothing away from them, this is a great result for all involved with that club!! I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the tournament!

The players have already been away from their families for a week - something they aren't particularly used to.

The inquest into why we entered the competition will probably go on long into the winter months, but perhaps it's better for the players that they can now come home, have the weekend off, relax and get ready for the West Brom game next Tuesday night.

Away  from home for a week?  Whilst being paid to play  football?   Oh I do feel sorry for the little mites

In all fairness, injuries to players, fatigue, homesickness, etc, have all probably paid a huge part in this result. At least for the players this nightmare is now over and they're coming home. Importantly, we now have six days rest before our next friendly.

Didnt know our pre season tour was in Afghanistan.

Homsickness??? - Are you taking the mick??

Jesus, I hope non of these players ever transfer to another club if they get homesick that quick.

According to Sky, Blackpool used seven subs tonight against Kilmarnock who fielded six unnamed trialists. Blackpool won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

I don't think we will be invited back for next years competition anyway judging by the tournament director's comments regarding SOD.
