Updates in here, please!
I'm going for a steady 3-1
-
4-0 Hayter, Sharp, Woods and Stock
-
Sullivan, Martis, Hird, Friend, Grandison, Gillett Payne, Shiels, Clark, Fairhurst, Sharp.
-
Sulli
Martis
Hird
Friend
Grandison
Gillett
Payne
Shiels
Clark
Fairhurst
Billy
Subs
Copps
Butler
BROOKER
Stock
Woods M ?
-
Sorry lads and lasses having all sorts of 503 system errors.
Still 0-0. Significant that Brooker on the bench.
Clark is playing full back and Grandison in midfield. Hammering it down but they say the lads look brilliant in the new home kit.
First strike on goal from Shiels. Corner.
Out for a GK.
-
Not particularly exciting at the moment.
-
good to see sharp and fairhurst getting a chance together
-

Even better to see The Beast on the bench.
-
yeah that too
-
Header from Sharp good save.
-
Conceded from a long throw by the sound of it.
-
Down 1-0. Came from a long throw.
-
OK, so thats the one. Time to get three (or more)
-
0-2 Now
Another long throw-in
-
2-0 again from the long throw. Not good at all.
-
H&W 2-0 another long throw. Doh !!
Just about to say they are having the better of it and creating uncertainty !
-
That's poor that
-
oh dear come on lads chin up
-
Midfield not getting a grip. This is how we learn about some periferal players.
-
Have to say Grandison didn't look up to much on Saturday. But the team we have out should be good enough really. Same old on the set piece isn't it?
-
Fed up of hearing \"Hird..long ball towards Billy Sharp..couldn't quite reach it\"
-
was just thinking that still havent sorted out set pieces
-
0-3
:( :(
Sounds like the mid-field is virtually non existent
-
3-0
-
Sounding pretty damn awful.
-
THREE nil. Strike from a free kick.
-
This isn't good for our preparations...getting knocked out at this stage deprives us of two more games against half decent opposition. And there's no way that Barnstaple will beatHavant surely so we're heading out if this stays the same.

Yup wasted trip this will turn out to be.
-
Well. Great platform for Brooker in 2nd half.
Again. Long ball from Hird.
Sharp scored but flag up.
-
who we gonna blame now no smith or guy now???
-
Sounds like we're playing a mix of good old pros and young lads. Sammy Igoe ex of Bristol R in their team.
Last minute
-
Bit of a pisser my tickets for Saturday arrived today.
-
Don't get despondent, its only a friendly. Same as we didn't get carried away on Monday.
The game at Preston is the one that matters,up until then its trial and error and getting fit.
-
dknward2 wrote:

sulli
-
time for a sod half time tea break and chat
-
Half Time - Back 4 having a hard time. Especially Hird. Too many passes going astray.
Just confirmed Oster having exploratory op tomorrow.
-
Woods 270 minutes - conceded 1
Sulli 45 minutes - conceded 3
Sulli's first choice keeper isn't he? :S
-
dknward2 wrote:

Not a tea cup break?
when we concede 2 from long throw ins, it's so obvious what we lack...a dominant centre half!!!
-
My mate, who is at the game, has heard that we were going to withdraw from the tournament tomorrow anyway- citing injuries and the issue over substitutions. I doubt we'll be signing up for any more tournaments in future!
He also says Rovers have been dreadful, especially in midfield.
-
4-0 :O
-
2 sneaky Blackpoolesque subs. Copps and Stock on.
4-0 though
-
we are now doing a Blackpool....and its 4-0
-
Oh dear.
-
Perhaps under orders ??
Or perhaps we're just getting thumped !!
-
Just to clarify, Stock and Copps are not wearing their own shirts.
Dumbuya on for Friend
-
bit disappointed if we lose this bad hope we at least bring it back level even if we go out on pens that would be ok
-
Wonder if SOD is doing a blackpool with his subs??
-
DonnyBazR0ver wrote:

maybe we are trying to get kicked out
-
Rovers trying to stamp some authority on the game. Fairhurst shoots over the bar.
-
Payne free kick. Over the bar.
-
Sub number 4 :) Adam Lockwood
-

to little too late
-
Perhaps we haven't been very professional about this comp. all the other teams only have 3 subs as well.
Blackpool seemed to be up for it and can handle it despite starting in the Prem. a week after us. I'm gutted for our fans who made the effort to travel. Losing on purpose in a Cup comp. however meaningless doesn't seem to be our style.
Ffs we must have read the rules before going..........didn't we ? If we wanted to withdraw as has been suggested then at least go out on a win.
-
Adam Lockwood on for Grandison.
Thats 2 unofficial and 2 official subs. Are you following ?
Good strike by Stock just wide
-
I'd be a bit unhappy if i'd travelled down there to see this. We shouldn't have entered.
-

SOD only found out day before travelling.
-
Coppinger strikes. Just wide.
We're getting better. Can't hit a barn door tonight though.
-
Are we seriously losing on purpose?
-
Let's remember that the rules were changed thanks to the FA on Saturday, something SOD is not at all happy about. Listening to the commentary the team that is playing has injuries and illness and doesn't look at all like it's bothered about staying in the competition.
-
Dosent matter one bit - feel sorry for the fans that have gone down there but as the 10-1 other day ...means nothing!!
-
besty wrote:

Probably not, but it makes for a good excuse B)
-
No. Just sounds like we're not putting everything in.
Commentator says we're not playing the passing football we're accustomed to and, a few players carrying knocks.
-
I don't think we are, I think we have a few knocks and the players aren't 100%. Plus combine that with a crap pitch then I think we are finding it hard.
-
besty wrote:

 bloody sounds like it with unofficial subs.........this is embarrassing.
-
If semi final is on Friday, when would final be ??
Bearing in mind we have WBA on Tuesday.
H&W just gone close again.

No surely not, right so if we set out to lose this game then why start important players liks sharp, coppinger, stock etc,,,,
does not add up.
It would also be very wrong towards the fans of drfc who have made the journey to devon.

How is doing what Blackpool did 'losing on purpose'? I'd say that's a combination of SOD's frustration & injuries plus the attitude of 'well they did it and got away with it, so we'll do it too'.
We aren't losing on purpose but clearly the team isn't bothered, doesn't wanna get injured and knows we're going home anyway.
-
Steve Brooker on for Fairhurst. Biggest cheer of night
-
If we aint bothered then why the hell are we playing?
-
Forum's struggling to cope again

Then that's a bloody wasted trip, I don't think we will be invited again that's for sure.

So Fairhurst is the new Guy ;)
-
5-0 what a farce. We've even had players complaining about the tackles from Havant, sounds like we don't want to be there.
-
Penalty to them. 5-0
-
Disgraceful. You'd think we'd have made an effort for the people who have spent good money travelling down.
-
haha dont you love friendlies,win 10-1,lose 5-0.
-
I do have a degree of sympathy with the fans who have travelled down but they are friendlies after all.
-
Havant & Waterlooville sound a right dirty team, Sliding in all the time.
-
Totally agree, anyone that pays good money for friendlies are either mad or bloody loaded!
-
It's not a bloody friendly though , it's a tournament that our fans have booked holidays around. There has to be a really good reason , if so why play at all tonight ?
-
MrFrost wrote:

Sounds like the world cup all over again, i doubt there will be an apology either ;)
-
Come home boys. Time to start your proper preparation.
-
Tournament or not mate, they are still friendlies that mean jackshite at end of day.
Still agree something seems wrong tonight but I aint gonna lose any sleep over it,bring on PNE!!
-
Final Whistle.
Feel sorry for the fans there. Sounds like we were at half pace however, I don't think you can disguise the problems in defence.
Positive note. Brooker is here/back.
Not a good start for the new kit.
-
Is the game over?
-
This is not right, I don't care how good a Blue Square South Conference side H&W are, if Rovers cared about winning this comp. there is no way this scoreline would happen. Something has happened to change Rovers whole attitude towards this comp.
I've questioned the wisdom of entering this comp. from day one, and now it seems we have the very reason for my concern in the first place, knocks, and injuries, along with a disenchanted manager because of rule changes. A complete recipe for \"F**k it, let's get the flock outa here\".
-
I remember the Scarboro Carpets Cup. How times / attitudes have changed!
-
Games are games and players need minutes. Unfortunately, some players have played more minutes than SOD wanted.
I'm sure he will have learned more about the triallists, Dumbuya, Friend etc, and helped him decide if we need to bolster any areas. Plus gave Brooker a chance to get on.
Now it's about real preparation and scouting what's available in the transfer market or, make a few calls to call those loan players in.
-
How did Payne and the other trialist do? Does anyone know?
-
Awesome apparently, the 5-0 scoreline is all a dream! ;-)
-
crikey, never seen so much gnashing of teeth at the result of a friendly!
in SOD we trust. all that matters here is how the team line up against Preston. I seriously doubt Sean will have thrown the game, but if he's told the team to avoid challenges or similar then he's got a reason for doing so. if he doesn't fancy the 2 extra games, then fair enough.
no injuries, some field time for Brooker, and a decent assessment of the trialists would be a far better result from this tournament than winning it. fans take their chance, these are friendly games after all!

Told you all that Havant are a decent little side. ;)
In all fairness, injuries to players, fatigue, homesickness, etc, have all probably paid a huge part in this result. At least for the players this nightmare is now over and they're coming home. Importantly, we now have six days rest before our next friendly.
Fair play and congratulations to Havant for beating us so convincingly this evening. Take nothing away from them, this is a great result for all involved with that club!! I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the tournament!
Good to see we did everything we could to win this game Rigo eh ? Homesickness, they weren't in Outer Mongolia were they! Are you being serious Rigo ?
-
Rovers not the only unhappy team:

I like it
\"have the weekend off\"
from what ? 2 hours training and 90 minutes of football ? I feel for em dont you ?
They ve just had 6 weeks off.
Footballers ? ive shit em

Rigoglioso wrote:
The players have already been away from their families for a week - something they aren't particularly used to.
The inquest into why we entered the competition will probably go on long into the winter months, but perhaps it's better for the players that they can now come home, have the weekend off, relax and get ready for the West Brom game next Tuesday night.
Away from home for a week? Whilst being paid to play football? Oh I do feel sorry for the little mites

Jesus, I hope non of these players ever transfer to another club if they get homesick that quick.

According to Sky, Blackpool used seven subs tonight against Kilmarnock who fielded six unnamed trialists. Blackpool won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Looks like its degenerated into a total shambles thanks to the FA
-
I don't think we will be invited back for next years competition anyway judging by the tournament director's comments regarding SOD.

True he doesn't want any Premiership teams ;)
