Title: Nuclear War
Post by: I-was-there1976 on July 24, 2010, 11:23:44 am
Tommorrow the US of A and S Korea will put on a show of force which they hope will deter the N Koreans from any future attacks against their neighbours.

N Korea have today announced that if the planned show goes ahead they will launch a nuclear warhead.

China have shown their disgust at The US of A's actions. Japan are sending some top officials to the event to show their backing.

We may not see the start of the football season. Get digging your underground shelters lads and lasses

But would it stop with just the annihilation on N Korea?

Probably not. Nuke an entire country, and watch the whole world fall to it's knee's.

Or even worse, Nena could re-release 99 Red Balloons.

Which is highly likely as they probably couldn't launch a missile any further than their front door.

On the contrary. A couple of years ago they very pointedly conducted a ballistic missile test, the trajectory of which went straight over Japan. Pretty obvious message.

Dear North Korea,

How about a nice game of chess?

Nothing will happen, NK threaten war all the time. They probably threatened war with Portugal for thrapping them at football.

Although they are still technically at war with SK.

If it did go Nuclear China and Russia wont just stand by. If that happened there would only be one loser, Planet Earth.

We will know when/if we wake up tomorrow if it was just an idle threat! But if you wake up with a metalic taste in your mouth worry, and run for the potassium iodide!

It's only a matter of time before some kind of nuclear war takes place. I reckon it'll take place in my lifetime. There's no solution, not now. USA should take most of the blame. They are intent on sticking their nose in where it doesn't concern them in their quest for world domination.

Watch 'Threads' from 1984 (cold war era). Its a docudrama about a nuclear war. Its centred anround a young couple from Shitfield. Watched it a couple of years ago and its quite shocking.

I can imagine watching it back then must have scared the living shit out of people.

Oh and look who the young lad is !! any corrie fans?

Seen that, truly shocking, depressing stuff. I know the moral of most post-apocalyptic films is that the human race adapts due to its strength of spirit blah blah blah but watching that really does make you question whether you'd want to survive a nuclear bomb to then go through what they went through in that film.

There was a decent American \"made for TV\" movie along a similar line. Can't remember the name but think it had John-boy from the Waltons in it!

It did that! Anyone with half a braincell knew back then that we were walking a tightrope. It wasn't until reading about the Soviets' near-hysterical reaction to the NATO Able Archer manoeuvres in 1983 that we realised just how close we came. By all accounts the Kremlin was utterly convinced that Reagan was using the exercise as a cover for a real pre-emotive strike and they damn near talked themselves into getting their retaliation in first.

f**king terrifying.

I remember a little booklet put out by, I think, Sheffield Council, in the 70's. It explained, in glorious technicolour, with maps, exactly what would happen if a medium sized nuclear bomb went off over the middle of Sheffield. Amongst the things I've never forgotten from that little booklet are the facts that all the telegraph poles in Donny would spontaneously ignite; that there wouldn't be a building standing in Doncaster - never mind Sheffield and that the radioactivity would entirely poison the whole of South Yorkshire and beyond for 200 years and more. No human would ever live there again for more than 8 generations. And all that was before the idea of the nulcear winter had entered into the public consciousness. To this day I'm still quite glad I live within a mile of a US bomb dump where they are reported to store a raather large arsenal of nuclear bombs. I wouild, I assume, therefore be a prime target if such an event ever came to pass. I don't want to survive it.

The American tv film was called \"The Day After\".ITV showed it.
I remember watching \"Threads\" though and totally shitting myself.
Scary times the early 80s.It really did seem like it was going to go off at any time.

But not in Barnsley, where there would be very little noticable difference  :)

A nuclear war has taken place already - it ended the 2nd world war. Korea would be a united country now if it had not been for the USA (and the United Nations, UK included) who fought the communist invasion in the early 50's. Would you have prefered a united Korea under the current and past dictatorships being a real threat to it neigbouring countries. Love and hate them (and most people wrongly hate them) if it was not for the USA we would all be firmly under the communist boot by now because the combined Armies of Europe would not have stopped the Russians from over running the West at the end of WWII.

In that case, why do you support Osbourne's plan to eliminate the defecit by 2015?

I only wish the UN was involved in this 'maneuver' as they have now backed down on specifically blaming NK for the the sinking of the SK warship. The UN economic sanctions have failed and NK has walked away from the negotiating table.  Apparently these war drills will continue for several months as well. With this provocation, who knows, we might not last that long unless NK (and China) recognize that this military presence is a sign of the US's failure to gain an alliance with which to collectively address their nuclear situation.

that film threads from 1984 thats the film where you see the women piss her sen just before sheffield is nuked.

i used to have nightmares about nuclear war and would wake up
in the morning in some rite states.

one bad nightmare that i had i recall as when i woke up i was
still in that state of not been fully awake, you know where you are bumping off yer walls or wardrobe doors cant get yer socks on for life of yer.

like i said i just woke up and in me mind was really confused
since i had this nightmare about a nuclear strike,i stumbled
to me bed room window and opened curtins and looked outside.

outside was all covered with a heavy frost, all the cars were white over as were front gardens road and path,my mind went into a fizz and i just about shat me sen as i honestly thought
and said to me sen 'they only have gone and done it'

took me a few m oments to come round and put 2 and 2 together
and get 4 not 5,8 or 7as i had just been doing.
