Title: Premier League defender
Post by: 1879Rovers on October 21, 2012, 08:42:23 am
Dean Saunders says he is looking to bring in an Premier League defender today on loan.

He was speaking on Radio Dee Dah after the game yesterday. He wouldn't name names but said he was surprised nobody else is in for him.

He wants him to sign a weeks contract and play for nothing

Maybe I'm getting the defender confused with Clingan (who definitely is a free agent) but I thought DS said the defender was also a free agent and he was hoping to get him in on the same terms as Michael Woods- i.e. we don't pay him!

I've a funny feeling it will be Chimmbonda. Just listened to player interview and the defender is a free agent.

Chimbonda has just tweeted he is at airport heading for Guadeloupe. Unless Bawtry has had a name change then I suspect it will not be him.

Luke Young, not in 25 man squad, available for loan. Right back. Maybe?

From what I heard he was looking at a number of players, confirmed interest in Sammy Clingan and said we were looking at a Premier League right back who should be coming on loan in a couple of days. I suspect it will be a youth player who we haven't heard of.

You'll have heard of him.
He'll be a cracking signing, should he join....

I'm sure he said he was hoping to get the right back on a free. Weeks contract he said for free.

I'm aware of that, but I'm not saying anything further as I don't want to break confidence. I know you won't like that, but sorry, you'll just have to trust me that he's VERY decent player and I'm very excited by this.

that's fair enough - any clues you feel you're able to drop in that case?

What's the likelihood that he will actually sign - are there still things to be agreed or is it all a matter of red tape at the moment?

Also, any clues, nowt like a bit of transfer gossip to make a boring Sunday afternoon interesting!

A week? We are signing a player for a week? Now I have heard of short term contracts but no wonder he will be cheap if he is never going to play a game for us!

I got the impression that signing was closer than Sammy Clingan joining.
He's under wraps right now as I'm sure Dean Saunders & co won't want another club being alerted to his availability.
It could be a case of us turning up at Prenton Park on Tuesday night and he'll (hopefully) be there, making his debut for us.
Added bonus is that Humey will be REALLY up for this one.

I don't think many clubs do business on Sundays though, unless it's very special circumstances. I'll be keeping my ear to the ground tomorrow though, hopefully we don't get let down again as we were so often in summer.

dean did say on the interviw that the player was coming to talk today, he said the defender would raise a few eyebrows as people dont know he is available. to me that could be someone like luke young who has been mentioned above but doubt it is him.

But seriously, and don't think I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth, but what's the point of a 1 week loan?
Title: Re: Premier League defender

Where has this one week loan rumour come from? Seems to me like someone has some wires crossed somewhere. Isn't there a limit on how many short term loans you can take out, so why would we waste one on a week's loan? Can you even get week loans? Maybe Deano meant he'll have him on a week's trial, or the reporter just misunderstood something he said, wouldn't be the first time.

Post Brentford interview on Player with Dean on Saturday, says the player will be with him "tomorrow", poss meant Monday, and he'll be offering him a contract for a week to play for nothing - body language suggests thats a Deano exaggeration, probably meaning playing for very little.

I think you will find it was some form of Welsh humour, Dean was probably extracting the urine out of the previous McKay experiment. If you saw the interview on player he had that grin on his face when he said it. Proves that people will believe anything.

By the way Griffin is a free agent, not a loanee.

Andy Griffin played 42 games for reading last season when they were promoted, but was released at the end of his contract, now a free agent looking for a club. Also played for Stoke City and Newcastle United.

Sorry, got it wrong according to Wikipedia he played 42 times in 2 years, 9 times in the promotion season last year, he is 33 but very experienced. I maybe wrong, but I hope I am right oin my guess as to who it is.

I would have thought he would be a centre back and not a full back when you look at what we need.

Some confusion here I think, Andy Griffin has signed, there is another coming in, prem youngster on loan.
