Personally I'd like something fitting like Cavatina (he was beautiful), or simply the best by Tina Turner.
Of course you have to be careful what you request, if, for instance you have a wife who's liable to physical violence, after all you don't want to risk the embarrassment of going out to 'hit me baby one more time', do you! And if you like Queen, and you give your lass the choice of one of their songs, make sure she hasn't got a sense of humour other wise you might get 'another one bites the dust', while the curtains are closing.
After I've popped my clogs and had my funeral, I reckon it'd be a nice gesture to our lass to have me stuffed and brought back home, and laid on the settee. I've mentioned this idea before to her and she said 'well at least there wouldn't be much difference to when you were alive!
With a sense of humour like that there's no way I'd risk letting her pick the songs!
What song would YOU pick?

Jumpin Jack Flash by The Rolling Stones.
-
Living in a Box, by Living in a Box.

Genius
I'll be cremated, so I'll have Fire by Crazy World of Arthur Brown, followed by Religion by Front 242 (chorus is a guttural Belgian scream of "Let me burn you, let me burn you, let me burn you down")
On a serious note, I reckon I'll have Agnus Dei from Faure's Reqiuem. I want to be sent off to heaven in style and there is no Reqiuem music to compare with that. It raises the hairs on my neck every time I hear it.

Take my Hand Precious Lord by Jim Reeves
Followed by Abide with me
-
Rawhide
-
I'd prefer a surprise.
-
Oasis - Live Forever
-
Without a doubt, the track by Sinead O'Connor at the end of Veronica Guerin film, "One More Day".

If you were stuffed your friends might be tempted to take you to the Keepmoat one last time. If the game was like the last one you'd probably still walk out after 70 minutes.
I would like generally uplifting stuff at my funeral, so stuff like "Bill is Dead" by The Fall and "Frou Frou Foxes" by The Cocteaus. I'm sure "Jerusalem" would also feature somewhere.

If it's a car accident then has to be The Smith's with "There is a light" surely thats the law.
-
Scarlet Ribbons - Sinead O'Connor
Hope There's Someone - Antony & the Johnsons
Boots of Spanish Leather - Bob Dylan

With my family, they would asking for a refund of the travel expenses if I emerged "Lazarus like" from the coffin.

'Remember the Good' by Roy Orbison if I could change the main line to 'for all HE meant to me I'll remember the good' as opposed to 'all SHE'... Beautiful song and well worth looking up on youtube if you don't know it!
Swap shes and hers to hes and hims and it'd work.

There is something in choosing an upbeat happy tune like bring me sunshine, it's in the same tradition of playing trad jazz down in the Deep South of the USA. Always look on the bright side of life? Maybe.

Precisely, that's why we played it at my dad's funeral to walk out to.

How about the Benny Hill theme tune?
No. Too much.
I'll always remember Rovers away to Boston, during the minutes silence the fella behind me, his phone started ringing. The Benny Hill theme. Derrr dur dur d d d d dur dur d... He couldn't turn it off. Dur d dur d dur d... It was loud, and he's going Shit! Shit! ... We couldn't laugh but it was smirks all round.
-
That's funny but I see a funeral as a celebration of a life. Why not laugh as well as be sad.
-
In that case, Wish me luck by Gracie Fields. Can't get much more chipper than that.
-
MIne have been chosen for years and my Undertaker knows them
In - Every Grain of Sand - Bob Dylan
Out - I Ain't Gonna Go to Hell for Anybody - Bob Dylan
My only stipulation is that whoever is there has to stay in and listen to both songs all the way through
-
If it were up to me I'd have 'in dreams' by Roy Orbison but since I'll be dead (I hope - BST) whatever gives my loved ones some comfort and happy memories will do for me.
-
I went to the wake of the crotchety grandfather of a colleague, and he wanted Frank Sinatra's My Way to be played, and sure enough it was blaring out of the funeral home's doors! It was perfect. Happy and sad (and true).
-
Forever Young. Bob Dylan.
The irony!!
-
If I'm buried Going Underground by The Jam
If I'm cremated Burn by Deep Purple

Only the good die young by Billy Joel, when I die when I'm 90.

Don't you forget about me - Simple Minds

If it's going to be Simple Minds, it'd better be Somebody Up There Likes You.
