With Belle Vue now all but gone the VSC approached the club with the idea of filling a couple of walls in the Belle Vue bar with a huge print of Belle Vue; something to look at and make us all smile before a match whilst having a pint; attached below is a picture the two walls we are looking to cover.
We also wanted to offer the chance to all Rovers fans (and local companies) to have their names permanently printed on to the wallpaper as a donor to the project, with your name merged into the print for all to see.
For just £20 (£50 for businesses) you can become a donor to this exciting project, and have your name printed on this unique wallpaper!
We are working with Steve Uttley Photography (https://www.facebook.com/UttleyPhotos) to source the best two photographs for this project; if you have a photograph you think would look great in large print on the wall, feel free to email it to website@drfc-vsc.co.uk
(http://www.drfc-vsc.co.uk/images/btn_donateCC_LG.gif) (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DD6XGPD9SWSBE)
To donate just click the link above and remember to leave the name you would like printing on the wall.
You don't need a PayPal account to donate; just click the continue link under "Don't have a PayPal account?" to enter your card details.

I think it would be nice to have a kind of through the yests esll of BV, pictures from different era's, the old pop stand, the cowshed and the high Rosso end terrace, should be temembered also
-
Not complaining or anything but maybe a photo of the ground before the town end and popside were condemned would be better. I hope that doesn't come across as being negative it's just a suggestion .
-
Flora me and you must be on the same wavelength
-
FILO!! Bloody predictive text😠😠
-
There was a great aerial photo of BV on the inside back cover of the programme for the last game at BV v Forest - all stands intact, planes on the airfield.
-
Is there any reason why it couldn't be on more than 1 wall? It is the belle vue bar after all. I'm not suggesting it dominates the room, just has more presence
-
It's really got to be pre-1985 showing the Cowshed and the old Pop Side and Rosso. So if anyone is aware of a good quality aerial shot, preferably in colour, that would be ideal.
Muttley- was the one in the Forest programme in colour? That sounds ideal.
-
All great ideas - keep em coming! We'll speak to Steve about the Aerial photos and see what we can find. In the meantime please keep your donations coming in!
And for anyone who doesn't want their real name on the wall, you can also submit your twitter name, or even forum username if you want! :scarf:
-
I'll pledge my £20
-
Hi we run a business would donate the £50 but I can only see where you donate the £20
how do we find the business section please help.
-
What about the limited edition photo of BV that some of us bought?
-
The old stand opposite the main stand, from Bob Lilliman;
Vince Taylor on Twitter: "The Popular Side at Doncaster Rovers' former Belle Vue ground in 1979. Pic Bob Lilliman. http://t.co/wKCUCoYB2y" (https://twitter.com/Groundtastic/status/543503057313886208)
Click on the photo to make it big. Next one in the sequence is the old "Barker and Wigfall" wooden stand at the Town end.

It was sepia (or faded black & white)
One thing to bear in mind is that you will need a scan of an original photo or negative, not a digital image copied off a website, otherwise it will not enlarge well.
I asked Deebee about a copy of the aerial shot for myself as he reckoned he had access to it, but he never got back to me.

I was involved with the production of that programme but I don't remember where we got that specific photo from. It may have been Steve who found it.

I wonder if Stuart Roy Clark would allow us to use A Crack at Belle Vue?

£20 donated from me :aok:

Thinking about this, Mick could fill a wall on his own with all of his aliases.

Just a quick message for anyone donating via PayPal - if you click "send money" within your own account and send to treasurer@drfc-vsc.co.uk, rather than using the donate button above, we can collect the full £20 and won't be charged an 88p handling fee :aok:

Is this the one?
If so, I would be interested in buying a print if possible.
-
That's my £20 donated
-
My £20 just gone as well.
Let's hope it makes the club a few quid. 😄
-
What about painting a few turnstiles, the main stand, popular stand, floodlights etc around the photographs.
-
Just an FYI - we're aiming to get the wallpaper printed and hung before the Bury game, so we'll have to stop accepting donations at some point next week (tbc)
-
Have we decided on what photo to use yet?
-
Not long left to get this sorted

Cracking shot but I doubt we'd get permission.

I quite like this shot too but it would be a question of sourcing a decent copy. It appeared in the newspapers so it's probably owned by Getty Images or someone like that.
-
I like these two - a nice panorama from the Rosso End and a nice shot of the main stand. Got both digital high-res originals too (courtesy of Steve Uttley)
Btw when you deal with Getty or PA Sport they charge upwards of £300 to use a single photo
-
If there is a shortlist of photos, maybe it should go to a vote as to which one(s) should adorn the Belle Vue Bar.
-
It needs to be quick only a couple of weeks left

I close my eyes and i can imagine every little detail in the place, the saturday kick off's and the night matches that for me were the best, under the floodlights you couldn't see the imperfections only the beauty of the old girl.

And Baz guessed the correct season! 5 points each.
Photo of main stand was indeed v Blackpool, September 2006.

Is someone going to be watching these on match days ? They are every rival fans dreams when it comes to defacing them. :(
-
.... anyone got the Town End Photo ? I could not get to it as there were lots of people sat right up to it.
-

I was panicking a little yesterday as despite all the precautions the club had taken people were leant against the walls, and one had his chair scraped along the side wall. It's a fact of life that people won't really care as much as we do.
-
Make the Rovers bar open only to home fans, then the chances are we'll have an unspoiled picture, AND somewhere to sit!
-
Why not cover them with Perspex?
-
On a more serious note, the Rovers Bar should have old Belle Vue type barriers to lean against, with an added shelf on top to place your drinks.
-
I can't believe no one (myself included!) has congratulated those involved for their efforts in arranging and producing the pictures.
Well done to all!
-
Seconded BB i think they look great.
-
Why not cover them with Perspex?
Great idea to protect them from defacing in the short term - and those who don't think anything of leaning / scraping chairs against them.
Well done also to those involved in getting them up as a permanent reminder of our late lamented old "home"

Couldn't believe it on Saturday to see our own fans leaning up against them and one table had been pulled up against the wall and fans sat with their chairs up against it. Unbelievable !!

-

here's the original
That's a different picture? On the other photo shown there are no stewards in the bottom corner of the seating and the sky is a little lighter.
-
Now its done we can protect it / them
Then any thoughts on carrying it a bit further ? I reckon some of the Programmes are a bit iconic and perhaps could be blown up A4 Size perhaps to form a montage or similar and thus fill another blank wall and make BVB more like home
Here is one we could use for sure. Just would need them scanning and enlarging / framing perhaps. Anyone think it a fair idea and anyone nominating any other icon of Belle Vue ?

We did talk about picking another couple of walls and doing the same again, although it isn't a cheap process and judging by the way some Rovers fans 'cared' for the ones we've already done I'm unsure.
-
Make the Rovers bar open only to home fans, then the chances are we'll have an unspoiled picture, AND somewhere to sit!
So would you be happy if every away club didn't allow Rovers fans in their club/bar?
Watching the rugby on tv it is great to see oppositions fans all sitting and drinking together. What a shame there are still some Neanderthals who spoil things in football.
-
It was meant as a light hearted remark, but to answer your question I don't recall ever being in another club's bar away from home, and I've never expected or wanted to.
-

You go some way to proving my point Bentley.
Why wouldn't you want to go into the oppositions bar for a friendly drink?
Off the top of my head I can recall drinking in the home bar/club at Walsall & Fleetwood for starters along with many other Rovers fans.
-
I went in a Tent at Yeovils Ground - does that count ?
-
It was good to see quite a few people having photos taken in front of it. Sad if people been leaning on it.
I think it's good that we welcome away fans in there. Rare that we've had a sniff of trouble as the vast majority of fans respect the hospitality and comment what a good set up it is. I hate it when you go away and you come across the 'Home Fans Only' signs, so I hope we don't go down that road.
Congrats to Martin and all those who made it happen. Both pictures are a great addition to the bar.

I don't understand that. The panoramic photo looking towards the town end, that bjw posted above, isn't the same as the one shown on the wall? The sky is darker and you can't see the trees and the sunset that are on the one in the bar.. And why would stewards be cropped out of the stand? The amount of fans in the pictures is significantly different too.. The relative position of the stairwall behind the terrace leading up to the directors box (with the white edge) is on different sides of the stanchion, in each photo, showing they were taken from different angles.
Don't get me wrong, I am not belittling the great work done to get these pictures up, and I am not arguing the point for the sake of it - but those views towards the Town end are clearly 2 different pictures..
Did the match that this/these pics were taken in get revealed yet?
-
IDM,
Yes you're right, its not the same photo. I've tried to upload mine but its too large. I'll see if I can save it in a different format.
-

I like to sit down for a start! I also want to be able to get served without queuing up for half an hour.
Out of interest, how many away grounds have you been to where the club's bar is open to away supporters?
-
I was sad to see the BV site being redeveloped when I drove by the other week. I think I preferred it when you could see remnants of the derelict terracing - especially the older parts that had been hidden by ground developments over the years.
I like keeping the great memories alive!
Back to the thread, someone asked a while back what fixture this was taken at - I'd like to know if there is an answer yet!

First time I have been in the Belle Vue bar at the KMS for a good few years on Saturday. I took two friends from Barnsley in and we got in the bar at 2:00.
We got 3 seats straight away and were served drinks and pies within minutes.
The service was excellent and I couldn't fault any part of the experience.
As far as away bars are concerned, I very rarely go in them:
Walsall
Fleetwood
Yeovil to name 3 that I have though.
-
I was in the Belle Vue bar on Saturday. I was in there from 1 o'clock. There were no free tables available inside, but there were empty benches outside. These benches relieve a bit of the demand for seats, but there use is obviously weather dependent.
We sat outside and by 1.30 ish they were all taken.
Despite it being a local derby, it was actually quieter than it was last season, probably because of the teams poor form. All the seats were taken though.
I don't like the situation really but I put up with it because at the end of the day at least my money is going into my club, not some f***** else's.
-
you're right BB, I uploaded the wrong picture
correct picture below:
-
Nice try IDM! I know which game the picture above was taken at; I was offering 10 points to anyone who guessed the correct game :P
-
It looks like winter, sunset so would be around half time or just after for a Saturday kick off.. I therefore thought the last game vs forest but apparently not..
-
wasn't in last season...
-
That's b*llocksed my thoughts then..
-
Is it Rovers v Barnsley 11-02-2006?
-
That bottom one with the little boy studying it is a cracking photo, Dave. Well done.
Indeed!
Isn't it funny to think that lad never knew BV? I wonder what he's thinking.
-
Hard to believe it is almost nine years since the move.

We'll be ordering the plaque(s) on Monday, so if you would like to see your name on the wall in the Belle Vue Bar alongside these iconic images make sure to donate just £20 via PayPal below:
