Don't know a lot about this guy...released from Milwall and spent last few years on loan at various clubs by the looks...So would be interested on what people make of him??

Shit, didn't check the twitter feed. My bad joke stolen by some lemmings at the club. Embarrassing.

Who thinks this means Williams will be moving on?
Title: Re: John Marquis
Post by: NickDRFC on June 13, 2016, 02:22:13 pm
Hopefully he's been brought in to complement Williams - don't know much about him but seems he's 6"1 so would expect him to be a bit more of a physical striker. If Williams does move on we would need to get another one in.

I remember putting him in my notebook a long while ago --Gillingham seemed to ring a bell and scoring goals !!
checking it was 2015 he scored 8 goals in 15 games on loan from millwall

27 may 2015
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/medway/sport/gills-target-stays-with-millwall-37588/

Marquis, 23, was out of contract in the summer and both Millwall and Gillingham offered him a deal. He has chosen to stay with the London club, signing a one year deal, with an option of a second - SO WHO TURNED WHO DOWN

he scored some stupid goal against rovers with the help of the wind !!! remember it now

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/english-league-one/match/394175/gillingham-doncaster-rovers/report

and on top of that rover once had a center half on loan called marquis (possibly from west ham ? around the moncur time ???)-think he got injured always had a feeling he (john) was related to the older one as you don't get many marquis's in a tented village

surprised he is still so young

here we go the other one

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Marquis

1994–1997
Doncaster Rovers played 29 (1 goal )

Having a quick look on the Cobblers forum and the concensus is they would have signed him as a squad player, works hard apparently but can be a headless chicken...The thing that really makes me cringe is the "Doncaster are about his level" grrrrrrr..They haven't been anywhere near our level for donkeys, but I'm taking solace in the fact one swallow doesn't make a summer ,and they will be back on there arse again soon enough....

Hardly. I suppose it depends if you like The Fall or not.

It wasn't really intended as a terrace chant, by the way. I'd probably suggest something along the line of:

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny
Johnny, Johnny,
Johnny Marquis.

(To the tune of No Limits).

Northampton and Oxford both got promotion by signing on loan players that were too good for this division

and now I remember thinking Marquis was far too good for the 4th division

on that basis I have to admit THAT IS ONE HELL OF A SIGNING

THANK GOODNESS FOR BILLY SHARP I SAY !!!

because the blades new manager can't really get rid of Sharpe (he has made him captain )
because if sharpe wasn't there I feel certain Marquis would have followed the x Northampton manager to sheff united

Do we have any concrete information whether they are related? Paul would have been in London (still on West Ham's books) and aged nearly 20 when John (born in Lewisham) was born.

I haven't been able to find any, Dutch.

Paul Marquis seems to have vanished. Probably gone abroad. I remember him as a decent enough player but almost impossible to get on the park. He was an earlier version of Steve Brooker!

He had one of the shortest ever West Ham careers. He came on as a sub in the last 60 seconds of a game v Man City.

No...He has just been released by Milwall so is a free agent,he was only on loan at Northampton..

Post by: Jonathan on June 13, 2016, 04:06:52 pm
I thought Paul Marquis was decent. Fairly cultured centre half. Let's hope John turns out to be a good addition. Decent enough scoring record in a few loan spells, and should also factor in that he hasn't been given the chance to settle longer term at these places so it's harder to build momentum. Could turn out to be a good signing.

so where does this leave Curtis Main ??

notts county are now free from their embargo - paid up to the tax man -- the club has almost been sold a few times recently --- and should be sold very soon

they are about to sign goalkeeper Collin from rotherham

for jon Sheridan to leave Oldham to go to such a bleak club summat must be going to happen -- they have a few signings lined up this week -- so wouldn't be surprised if Curtis joined Sheridan at county -- but for chr$ts sake put a good sell on clause in

note for rigiloso can Sheridan break the 2 year hoodoo of managers there

Possible that we will also bring a defender (left sided) on loan. Effectively as cover for the injured ATS. I agree we look short in that area.

He has been on loan to practically every club, exaggeration i know, made appearances but not that many at each club, but has scored goals.
He has adapted to different dressing rooms, and carried on scoring. I think he needs this permanent deal, to get his career on a solid footing.
Twenty four years old, but with a lot of experience of different levels. Physically big enough, quick enough, hard worker and scores goals, and will up his average now he has a permanent deal. A very decent signing for this level, and improvement still to come.

Definitely Mar-quis, unless you're the sort of person who calls Paris "Par-ee."

Paul Marquis was at the Keepmoat for a game the season before last. At the time he was working as a postman, and was a colleague of the chap who sits next to me.
