Title: Where in the world is Connor Grant??
Post by: jonnydog on February 25, 2017, 05:20:55 pm
I've thought this since his return to us, and have kept it quiet until now, but after that performance it has to be said.

Does not look the same player who was with us before. Today his passing was poor, his movement was poor, his hesitance almost got caught out on numerous occasions. Overall poor performance.

I'm not just going on today, like I say, I've not been impressed since he's come back to us. Looks a shadow of his former self.

Hopefully he can turn his game around quickly and prove me wrong.

I thought he was playing like that towards the end of his first spell with us when the going got tough. Can't for the life of me understand why he has the most of the dead balls. Have we won a game since his return?
Anyhow, let's hope this is just a blip and we get back to winning ways very soon.

Fair enough. No need for exclamation. Was genuine question as I hadn't been since before Christmas until the Luton game due to family illness and bereavement.

Not sure if his confidence is shot. He's definitely not the same player as before.

The worse game I've seen him play for us , it was him that got caught dallying on the ball which lead to their first goal.
Most of his set pieces didn't beat the first man , and i lost count of the number of times he gave gave the ball away when it was easier to find a Red shirt.

Shit ball to him from Copps caused him to lose the ball

No idea why McSheffrey wasn't taking set pieces when he came on last week. 100x with them than Copps or Grant.

Thought both he and Middleton were not really at the races today.

Continually gave the ball away & maybe he thinks his shirt is safe the way he strolls around. Put a few decent crosses in towards the end but apart from that had a poor game.

Totally agree - grant is not cutting it for me - with the exception of his few early games in first loan period he never has - combined with loss of houghton & no baudry meant little control in key areas!
Needs to start with butler & baudry and Alcock at right back ( this allows Blair to operate on right wing - taking players on with his pace - his best spot). No choice at LB - mason - even though he has been "involved" in several of recently conceded goals.
I'd have started with Williams up front - then bring may on @60 when their defenders are tired.
That leaves midfield - Rowe Middleton cops Blair
Mcsheff on for cops @60/70 mins when he gets tired

It's about time Alfie beeston got a chance, some of our players are taking there starting places for granted "excuse the pun"!

Me and a mate were saying the same yesterday. Fergie needs to pull him to one side and read him the riot act. Performances like that will only result in one thing, the football scrap heap!

Alcock was brilliant yesterday, Mason also had an excellent game.

Grant was dreadful. I would leave him out on Tuesday and give McSheffrey a start.

On what we've seen this season would you want Grant on a permanent deal ?

Yep he's still a class act! Form is temporary and all that - i'd take him permanent without thinking too hard about it!

He was that bad he even made the 1st goal for Rowe. Last week he made the goal for May.
What the heck is all this Conor Grant bashing about?
It seems we have to have a scapegoat when we are not winning don't we? Why oh why.
Get off his back he is a quality player and that will be proved.

I'm sure he actually also had a hand in the second goal as well!

Connor Grant must have had his confidence knocked at Ipswich, but he played well in his first games back for us  maybe he has hit a bad patch which all players do, i will go along with Fergie who obviously knows more than us. lets support the lad moaning wont help him.

I would agree with the Ipswich point...He went there expecting to show he could play at that level and for whatever reason it went sour..Mick didnt play him and it was a waste of time...
I agree he isn't playing very well at the minute and if you were watching him over the last few games you would wonder what the excitement was about because he's looked a bang average league 2 midfielder...The thing is we know how he can play and I've no doubt he will return to that again, league 1 will actually suit him better for me...

Yes I agree League 1 will suit him more.
The physicality of League 2 is not helping him.
His strength is on the ball as a creative midfielder and last season he was deadly from set plays.
He hasn't played much football this season so is still getting up to speed.
I just hope he hasn't been reading some of the posts on here as he may not wish to sign for us after reading them. Footballers like everyone else in the work place like to be appreciated.
He would be a very big player for us next year in League 1
I desperately hope DF can get him to sign.

It does sound like he is having a decent game though.
