Palace team - Hennessey, Ward, Kelly, Dann, Van Aanholt, Meyer, Milivojevic, Townsend, Schlupp, Batshuayi, Ayew.

Strong team but fancy us to cause that defence a few problems.

What's the last time we played a FA Cup match with the fans in short sleeves?

Deflected goal. Against the run of play have to say.

We started well but they were always going to be a threat on the break. Broke quickly into far too much space and then a lucky deflection to score.

Keep our heads and we’re still in this.

We are the better side right now. Crawford needs to do better with his corners - 3 poor deliveries on his side.

I like that we seem to be enjoying it - watched the Bristol City game, they were never smiling.

Palace getting into the match now...
Title: Re: Rovers v Palace

Palace have had a couple of set pieces, certainly look a threat from those. Commentators are convinced they should have had a penalty - bullshit.

Our passing is lacking its usual crispness. But we’re giving a good account. Just lacking that bit of quality at times. Palace’s #4 is central to them.

Two penalties denied so far..... could be our day..?

Hand ball or ball to hand by Downing? Seen them given.

We're far too slow in reacting to picking up players on the overlap.

Have I missed something here?

One added minute of time. Second goal scored at 46 minutes 50odd seconds. Where was the whistle for HT?

Post by: IDM on February 17, 2019, 04:52:20 pm
First goal, Whitemans pass gets intercepted and he chased it, leaving a gap for heir player to exploit..

The Downing handball could easily have been given.

Need to come out guns blazing in the second half, at leat get the next goal..

Slack marking for the second. That was a bummer, was hoping for 1-0 at the worst at ht

I stopped my stopwatch as the goal went in, 46 mins 6 seconds..

V poor defending for that goal. They're sharp on the break.

Not too impressed with their defending, they're big and quick but defenitely vulnerable.

We can get back in this, and then it's down to fitness and belief.

I reckon we’ve been the better team outside the two boxes easily. Need to practise our corners and free kicks. palace mostly offering set plays every ball they put in is hard to defend

Post by: Bollinger on February 17, 2019, 04:55:08 pm
My eyesight maybe. I was sure the clock on the replay of the goal showed it later, but maybe that was 'real' time.
Title: Re: Rovers v Palace
Post by: PDX_Rover on February 17, 2019, 04:55:17 pm
The difference is quality is apparent. That’s not a negative. Second goal was quality by Milvojevic, who is making Palace tick. First goal was lucky.

A real uphill struggle for us but we get an early goal... who knows. You know Palace will try and nick a third to try and kill the game which leaves them open possibly?

Woy might be tempted to take some of his important players off.

Either way, an important half time talk. We’ve certainly not been embarrassed.

Come on!

We've been alright but our final ball and their movement around the box sees us behind.  Bit more incisive we'd be winning.

We need something to happen - a goal or a sending off for Palace....

It’s a real shame that Wilkes is suspended. He’d be at these defenders.

All to play for - kicking towards the south stand.

Set piece delivery has been poor overall for us. Need to be more precise and get defenders on the deliveries.

Been a bit toothless around their area, snatching at the final pass.
Been a bit careless with the ball at times.

If Alfie left that header it’s 1-2. Copps close there.

Not been at it today sadly. Final delivery missing every time. Love the Alfie May story but frankly he just isn’t good enough. Thought Crawford was the best player before being pulled off

We've had the better of it this half.  We're ding all right here - without causing them any major problems...

Was surprised at the subs. May should have been taken off, don’t think Copps was at his best today (and was actually unusually sloppy) but unless he was knackered I’d have kept him on purely because he’s capable of a game changing moment.

Got to disagree - Kane looks excellent and will play in the Premiership...

They’ve managed the game well. Letting us have plenty of the ball and still been solid in defence. I’m not sure they’ve even got out of third gear - think it shows the gulf between the PL and the rest.

Love Herbie but he’s been a bit sloppy today. A good marker for him to see where he’s at though.

Palace have seemed happy to let us play. They are very well organized. We've not played bad but the difference in quality is obvious.
A fair few sloppy passes as well. Agree with above Herbie hasn't been at it today for me.

Alfie May disappointing. Surprised we didn’t sub him but not many options on the bench other than Boocock who is a bit of an unknown.

Agreed on Herbie, was expecting a lot from him today and just looked untidy in possession. Shame but Palace managed the game very well. Malik a huge miss instead of Alfie.

Not been at his best and needlessly conceded possession too often for me. He looks a world beater up against League One players week in, week out, but he has some work to do to look at home against Premier League opposition.

Some nice possession from us but very tame in the final third. Comfortable for Palace. But we are a good side at our level. Onwards ...
Title: Re: Rovers v Palace
Post by: PDX_Rover on February 17, 2019, 06:04:38 pm
Agree. Wilkes was a very big miss IMHO. This game was made for him to run at them. Alfie did some good things but bounced off them, and arguably if he left that header it’s 1-2 and a different proposition.

But we did well overall. Downside? We were a bit sloppy in the passing and set piece delivery was very poor.

A good run for us. Money banked. Would have been lovely to get a goal but Palace deserve credit. They managed the game well. Strong, fot side, solid, disciplined.
