Title: England v Argentina
Post by: Pancho Regan on June 14, 2019, 09:42:43 pm
I’m enjoying England versus Argentina in the Women’s World Cup.

Once you’ve got your head around the fact that it’s almost a different sport to the men’s game I’m finding you can appreciate it.

England totally deserving their lead and we should be able to see this through easily.

And no ‘hand of God’ !

Agreed Pancho.
The standard has improved loads since I last saw a woman’s international match, about two or three years ago.
I thought that the commentator was a bit OTT with his praising of Fran Kirby though.
She was nowhere near as good as he was making out.
I was very impressed though with the two left sided England players, Mead and Greenwood.

Any reports of groups of women getting drunk and throwing chairs at the local police tonight in France?

The thing with women’s football is not to try and compare it with the men’s game, just watch it for what it is..

The ladies football does not have the strong passes and long range shots that the men's football has, but as a football fan I find it equally enjoyable.
It's good to see both English men's an women's football doing so well right now.

Nice to see the Argie ladies adopting the theatrics and moaning of the South American men's teams.🙁

There was some tough tackling but no rolling  in agony and no stoppages for needless on field treatment ,no begging the  ref to show a yellow card ..are we seeing the justification for a new word in football ..sportswomanship .

No I don’t remember his attitude on women’s football but I do remember Inter fans threatening to string him up for his remarks on Italian players .

Something along the lines of the goalkeepers being bad coming as a surprise as he thought they’d be used to handling balls

The thing with women’s football is not to try and compare it with the men’s game, just watch it for what it is..

I said at the time of the last Women's WC, watch the best female teams from today, then immediately afterwards, watch the video of the 1962 Men's WC final. If they were parachuted back to 1962, the women would win comfortably. Far, faster, fitter and technically better. Not as strong, but their pace, ability and stamina would have overwhelmed the 1962 men's sides.

From what I've seen of this tournament, the women's game has come on a lot further since then.

I don't think they would have beaten Chile or Italy Billy.😉

They wouldn't have got close enough to them to lay a boot or a fist on them Idler. Point taken, mind.

Exactly that Billy. I think Eric Cantona saw that tackle before the infamous Crystal Palace game.
