Title: COVID tax credits
Post by: BillyStubbsTears on October 25, 2020, 12:16:25 pm
Anyone employed who has had to work from home can claim back tax credits. £60 for a standard rate tax payer, £125 for higher rate.

https://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2020/04/martin-lewis--working-from-home-due-to-coronavirus--claim-p6-wk-/?_ga=2.75919825.57767697.1603226315-1438800863.1594298240

I can't claim by this route as I submit a self-assessment tax return but a colleague who did claim said it was less than 5 mins effort.

Can confirm. Did it last week and if you've already got a government gateway account the form is literally one question "when did you start working from home". It only get's more involved if you want to claim more for your actual expenses...I expect most people are just going with the easy 60 quid option.

The point on office equipment claimback is also important, not quite sure on the technicalities but I'm sure you can claim tax relief if you purchased it yourself too, which is in essence a 20 or 40% contribution.
