Title: Tough start to the season
Post by: BillyStubbsTears on November 21, 2020, 07:04:52 pm
Worth noting. We're in 11th place with games in hand on most sides. And that's after a tough start. Of our 11 matches, 8 have come against sides currently in the top 13 places. Today is the first time we've been comprehensively second best in any of those games.

Some of our fans are scything with the way we played today. Should read what Sunderland fans think of their performance and defensive attitude.
As for the comments on their manager. 9 out of 10 used the words starting with F & O to say what they want him to go & do.

Oh dear oh dear.
They are convinced if there were fans allowed in, Parky would have been history some time ago.

But many on here thought we played a very good team today and will not admit that OUR performance today was poor and it wasn't because Sunderland played well!

To be fair his second half negative tactics cost them. Any decent manager would have destroyed us today.

Second time for me because we were not on it against Plymouth either but the performances have largely been decent this season, and at times have been excellent. I'm not concerned but we need key players back in midfield and attack.

The reason we drew today was because I bet on Sunderland to score next when we were one nil down

We’ve had a tough start true. But our best results have been against the better teams. If we can sort out our form against the weaker teams this start will have been very good considering

Not sure I agree.  Had they opened up we'd have picked them up.  Teams who man mark Whiteman, sit back against us and nick a goal have a good chance, attack us openly and you'll struggle.  I thought Sunderland got their tactics right and we just got a bit of luck.

We have to improve in these situations against defensive teams.  Darren Moore has limited options to change things (no way does fejiri stay on if has John Jules etc available.  Taylor is also a big miss just for his pace.

If we can get John Jules, gomes and Richards back fit we are substantially better off.

Our problem is we concede a goal in most games so we need to score 2 to win with a striker who is struggling to score and gets no back up

Would have taken a point at 2.55 today. Happy with the point at 4.55. Move on to the next game.

To be fair to Fej, he has scored in three consecutive games now.

Opposition has scored first in 6 out of our last 8 league games.

We had a stinker. It happens. But we pulled a rabbit out of the hat in stoppage time. We should be jumping with elation.

For once a stroke of luck went our way. There are good players on the way back in the very near future. It's not like we are in dire trouble and nowhere to turn.

The fickleness of Rovers fans is incredible. If we win a game it's a case of definite autos, no-one can live with us. Draw and it's doom and gloom, at least a dozen fans on suicide watch.

We ain't Bayern Munich. Our players aren't machines. Many are learning their trade, picking their way through the season. Getting stronger. Making mistakes occasionally as all are prone to.

Drama queens. Immature. Bordering on embarrassing. And that's our fans. I take that last gasp goal as a turning point. A bonus.

The stats at half time were something lke 40/60. By full time it was 51/49. Some Sunderland fans were saying this was their best performance of the season to date. We must have done something right, surely?

On to Tuesday. Saturday is now history. We can not change what's behind us, only what lies ahead.

Saying we were brilliant when we were brilliant, or mediocre when we were mediocre, or shite when we were shite isn't being fickle, it is just giving an honest opinion.

You have to give Sunderland some credit, they carried out their managers plan well, they didn't just press us, they sprinted hard at every player to really pressurise the players.

There is another way to spin this though, as good as Sunderland did in this press, they created nothing - only a long range worldie. We on the other hand were poor, and still created at least three very good chances.

Not sure we were second best either. There were two poor sides on show yesterday. They had a few more shots on target but I didn't see them dominating. They definitely stopped us playing, but equally they rarely threatened us.

No, it's not an opinion. It's stating a matter of fact. No one disagrees it was a poor performance. Being utterly negative and destructive as many have been over the past 24 hours helps no-one. Many folk lack awareness of their actions. These are not the actions of true supporters. Where is the understanding, nurturing, encouragement, support. We don't have 50 million pound players. We're a league one team. Rovers till we have a bad game.

It’s not an opinion,
We were shite it’s factual, I’ve not seen anyone other than Darren Moore say otherwise

This is such a patronising attitude. It would be warranted if fans had booed the team off after snatching a last gasp draw. The Keepmoat is the arena where we need to be nurturing and supportive; an Internet forum is there for a whole range of things, like blowing off a bit of steam after a poor performance, but it’s not some sort of nursery where criticism of any player or manager should be met with scorn. You’ll always get the odd poster or two going over the top but it doesn’t make the rest of us any less of a fan for offering an opinion that we weren’t impressed.

Who in your opinion are the dozen fans on here who should be on suicide watch?

Not going to dwell on yesterday's performance too much as it may turn out to be a good result. We have more in the tank.

Just a slight concern is again, we find ourselves playing catch up. We'd all rather have points in the bag but given our injuries it may be a blessing in disguise.

I'm not one for extreme opinions but there are some who revel in the attention seeking, over the top criticism when in general, there's alot to be positive about. It wouldn’t be more digestable if folk applied a critique when we win!

Still looking forward to the rest of the season and hope we can put away teams when we dominate matches more often.

I think that most agree we were pretty poor and under performed on Saturday. Sunderland did a good job of disrupting our play and stopping us without working our keeper.
Different fans have different levels of patience. We were all disappointed with the display if not the result but the difference is how you deal with it.
Like politics the extreme on one side are suicidal and the extremists on the other side are reasonably happy. The truth lies somewhere between.
We can’t change the result now so it’s pointless being apoplectic about it. Try to digest where we went wrong and hope that DM, the coaches and the players learn from it and improve. I’m sure that they were all disappointed with the performance if not the result.
