Same team isn't it?

Must admit, I was trying to be cool and calm about this one but prematch nerves kicking in!

John down to the bench.

Fej and John-Jules both start.

Guessing James at left back and Fej out wide?

One of em will be on the right I'd guess, as opposed to two up top.

Edit; beat me to it Janso

I reckon it’ll be Taylor on the right and Fej on the left but could easily be the other way round.

Fej has got his mojo back, looks fit and hungry and very heavily involved so far. Turn and shot from the edge of the area after an excellent ball from Richards.

Summing up, how are we doing? Looking ok?

We are playing well and in complete control but guilty of overplaying a bit at times and lacking a spark in the final third. Shrewsbury are a well-drilled, organised side and we’re struggling to break them down and create chances. Sims would make a real difference here.

Dominating the game against a team who are full in confidence. Really enjoyable to watch but as someone mentioned above I feel we need to score first here otherwise Cotterill’s shithouse tactics will come into play

It might need a decent shot edge of area in this. We need to get whiteman in that position a bit more to open them up.

Bar that we've had enough opportunities to be ahead, keep going we will win it.
Title: Re: TLOD V Shrewsbury
Post by: sha66y on December 22, 2020, 08:35:08 pm
John on at left back
JJ off
James moved forward

Need to exploit this left side

Apart from that we look very solid and industrious, fej is back to bossing
Title: Re: TLOD V Shrewsbury
Post by: DonnyBazR0ver on December 22, 2020, 08:44:09 pm
Yes, not doing much on left. Matt Smith not fully on it yet.

Plenty of running at them on right but final ball or shot not quite there but been close.

Keep doing the same but a bit more thrust from Taylor wouldn't go amiss.

This, for me. We're working the flanks well but every cross the keeper gobbles up or we're lacking in the box.
Get Ben or TR shooting.

Te BBC reckon we've had 9 shots to their 1. And not a single one of ours has been on target.

Fouls now 8:3 in Shrewsbury's favour. They're gonna win that...

Amazing our one player who has been fouling got the deserved yellow but their team multiple fouls kicking the ball away get nothing.

Even when they scored they run in the middle to celebrate then one of their players started pulling them towards the corner.

Weak refereeing

That'll be Hull, Lincoln and us that Shrewsbury have beaten in 3 consecutive matches....

So we should have learnt by now, they are a poor side, if we are looking to be top six we have to be better  & street wise than tonight.

Seen that performance too many times this season, same weakness still there isn't it?

What do you reckon that is, bfyp?...just asking.

Inability to break down very defensive sides and create in a compact area.  Wimbledon, Wigan, Shrewsbury, Crewe all examples of it.  Not really outplayed at all but struggling attack wise.

It reminds me a bit of o Driscoll sides.  We lacked an option to change the game and do something tonight. Be that some real flair or a different option eg a target man.  Perhaps at times just a bit too technical and what's the plan b?

Struggled in midfield. 2nd half we just didn't play.

Fair enough, bfyp. I didn’t see the game myself, but your points seem valid to me.

To be fair, ...our lack of imagination at corners is not putting the fear of god into the opposition..I haven’t seen a won header for such a long time....... is that because of poor delivery or attacking position ?

Too many players off it tonight. Smith gave far too many passes away, Richards tried to do too much at times, and our wide players failed to exploit their wing backs pushing on.

First half we probed well but you have to create more when you are bossing the game. The free kick we gave away for their goal was silly and needless too. Hopefully Richards will learn from that and the Burton penalty. If he doesn't have that rush of blood we probably take a 0-0 and keep the unbeaten run going.

It's not like we can't break these sorts of sides down though. We've done it over the past few games. The other side just got the better of us tonight. No need for alarm.

We just kept on doing the same things that weren't working. Nobody attempted to carry the ball at all. Our match stat of zero successful dribbles summed it up.

Taylor was particularly disappointing tonight.  One poster this week was comparing him favourably with Sims, I firmly disagree but declined to join that debate as I prefer to see the good things each player brings.
Tonight though my frustration has got the better of me, Taylor is great when he's in a foot race against a defender and running into space but put a man (or the goal) in front of him and he simply runs out of ideas and composure.  Not singling him out for last nights defeat just adding my thoughts to the debate comparing him with sims.
