Sometimes there are films where one of the stars of the show is the soundtrack. Chariots of Fire is unquestionably one of those films, and what a thing to wrap a period piece up in synthesisers. A highly unusual and influential thing to try, I expect Hans Zimmer would agree.

I might be totally wrong, but didn't Vangelis team up with Jon Anderson of "Yes" for a single that got into the charts?

Anderson released the 4th one without Vangelis' permission - thats why they never made any more.
He tells a great story of his first meeting with Vangelis. He had gone to meet him at Vangelis' flat in Paris with a view to him joining Yes. They were chatting in the hallway when Vangelis suddenly pulled out a bow and arrow and fired a shot of down the hall and through a window:
'What are you doing, you could have killed someone?'
'It's all right, I'm Greek!'
That explains his work with Aphrodite's Child - the world has lost another bonkers genius.

I saw "Yes" live at the Top Rank(it's had umpteen names since then), in the late 60s, with Wakeman on keyboards.
What a f*cking great band.

They were, and I was there too but I think it was early 70's SS
Yes, If and Egg was the lineup that night as I remember

Is there a better film to soundtrack combination than Blade Runner? It's absolutely perfect.

Probably still my favourite film for so many reasons including the soundtrack. definitely the best Sci Fi film ever made.
