The VSC are very pleased to announce that a Rovers legend, Ian Duerden, will be attending the Swindon game on Easter Monday with his wife Caroline and children Oliver and Nancy. Ian was an important part of the Rovers squad in our first few seasons in the Conference after relegation from the Football League. Amongst other things, he will be fondly remembered for a memorable hat-trick against rivals Rushden and Diamonds at Nene Park, and a fine winning goal against Farnborough in the Conference Cup Final at a packed Belle Vue, as well as the now infamous 'Get Duerden On!' chant which could often (and sometimes still is!) be heard in the stands. Ian will be attending a Supporter Q&A session in the Belle Vue Bar before the match, so make sure you're there!

We are also using the match to raise funds and awareness for Ian's son, Oliver, who is in need of an adapted wheelchair. We are hoping to have a raffle and collection in the Belle Vue Bar during the Q&A session and prizes will be announced before the game. The VSC has been speaking with the club for a number of weeks about having a Rob Jones Day as a special tribute from the fans to our Captain Fantastic.  His performances throughout these past weeks have inspired the team on to some excellent results, not to mention his personal contributions on the scoresheet, and he is fast cementing himself into Rovers cult hero status.

The club, through the In Rovers We Trust project, are delighted to support fan engagement activities and welcomed this idea with open arms.  Rob Jones himself was consulted, and gave his thumbs up too!

So, our next home match against Walsall (3pm Kick-off, Saturday 9th February 2013) has been deemed "Rob Jones Day", where we can show our appreciation of our inspirational leader on the pitch by wearing your FREE Rob Jones mask.  The club will also be springing a special Rob Jones-themed surprise for one lucky fan!

Download your printable Rob Jones mask by clicking the button below, and wear it to the match.  Tell your friends, post onto your social networks and lets fill the stadium with Rob Joneses!  After all, we're all Rob Jones, aren't we...?

The VSC has also designed some rather fetching #RobJonesFacts t-shirts, mugs and badges (many thanks to our regular graphic design supremo, SnodsShinpad, and the @RobJonesFacts twitter feed for their support), which can be purchased at http://townender.spreadshirt.se

Visit the site to see all of the designs and choose your favourite, but for now here is a sneaky peek at one....

We hope you like the designs and wear them with pride.  The funds the VSC receives from the sale of these t-shirts will go towards supporting our continuing work with the club on behalf of you, the supporters.

Have a great Rob Jones Day on the 9th of February, and let's cheer the team on to victory.

Back in November it was announced Doncaster Rovers were joining an ever-growing list which includes Aston Villa, Brentford, Bristol City, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Derby County, Hull City, Peterborough United, Watford, AFC Wimbledon and the Scottish Premier League by announcing it's support for the FSF's Safe Standing Campaign.

Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of Doncaster Rovers, said: "During the 2006/07 season Doncaster Rovers moved into an all-seater stadium and since that time the club have implemented a no standing policy at home games. After continued dialogue with supporters through our fan engagement programme, In Rovers We Trust, it has become clear that a selection of supporters do wish to stand at matches.

"The club believe that the creation of a safe standing area at the ground would allow these supporters to stand in a safe, controlled environment and allow them to have a match day experience that suits their needs. The club believe the creation of a safe standing area would also be of benefit to other fans at the ground who do not wish to stand, but sometimes are compelled at games due to having their view restricted due to people in front of them who attempt to.

"We lend our support to the Football Supporters' Federation in their request for trials for safe standing systems."

The Safe Standing Roadshow visited the recent Fans Forum at the Keepmoat, and owners John Ryan, Dick Watson and Terry Brammall, along with Chief Exec Gavin Baldwin, were impressed with the rail system on show. Both DRFC and the VSC can't wait for systems such as these to be put on trial in the UK, hopefully in the not too distant future.
