Yesterday, the club unveiled Paul Dickov as the new manager, and the VSC were there to welcome Paul to the revolution.
Following Brian Flynn's decision to return to a youth development role, the club had embarked on a thorough process to identify the right man for the job. Paul's name was very quickly linked with the club, with bookmakers installing him as red-hot favourite for the job and a number of supporters telling of how they had seen Paul at the Keepmoat watching some of our matches in the run in to becoming League One Champions. Even John Ryan agreed on Sky Sports that Dickov was a name that interested him, further adding to the speculation that this was the man to take over the reins from Flynn. From a supporter's point of view, the VSC were delighted that the club was sounding out a number of options and interviewed a number of managers, before revealing that Dickov was the right man to take us forward.
At yesterday's press conference, Paul gave a very clear account of his attributes and his vision, stating very clearly that he doesn't accept that the club should aim for Championship survival as some sort of success, and believes that, with the right additions to the squad, a top half finish is not beyond the club.
Now Paul can start his work in earnest and a few new signings are expected sooner rather than later. As his squad develops we will no doubt get a better understanding of the way Paul works and all we ask, as a Supporter's Trust, is that the fans give Paul their full support and welcome him to our great club.
As the VSC and the club move forward with IRWT off the field, hopefully Paul will lead the way forward on the field
