James Blunt prevented World War III

I know. I was skeptical too, but it looks khosher.

Mind, see me, I wish he'd gone in all guns blazing and died a hero for his country, even at the expense of initiating nuclear Armageddon. I'd have prefered taking my chances with the Rooskies' SS20s than have to listen to old Cockney Rhyming Slang's strangled tones.

I remember the whole incident well

General Sir Mike Jackson made one of the very best decisions in British Military history by playing the so called 'National Card' and refusing an order from Wesley Clark to take an airfield very recently occupied by Russian light forces. Clark, the US General as SACEUR (Supreme Allied Commander Europe) was in charge of all NATO forces in Europe - Jackson refused the order and referred back to UK MOD who backed him.

If Blunt was involved there is some truth in the claim

He may be a hero but I don't think his dad Anthony would have been very impressed with his behaviour.

Civilisation is on a knife-edge in such scenarios.

I'm so thankful that James thought of the wider picture and refused to up the ante.

I mean. Think what would have happened if he'd open the hatch of the tank and started singing to the Sovs. That would have been the ultimate escalation of the crisis and the only possible response would have been all out nuclear retaliation.

One chorus of \"You're beautifu-hul\" and we'd all be living in caves eating grit and using bits of radioactive strontium for lighting.
