Doncaster skyscraper
« on January 13, 2011, 07:14:37 pm by MrFrost »
Anyone seen the plans in the Free Press for a 300 foot 30 odd story skyscraper on North Bridge?

Apparently it's a serious proposal, althought I doubt it would ever get planning permission from our council.

Yeah saw that, exactly what Doncaster needs, perfect location for it aswell (and I could see myself living there).

I agree. There's a similar development opened up in Barnsley which has proved popular.

I know soemthing similar was proposed for the Belle Vue site, but the council shot it down in flames. Something about protecting Doncaster from high rise buildings.

The BV proposal was rejected due it not being completely out of \"scale\" with other buildings in the area and, therefore, contrary to the Council's Development Plan.

The same issues wouldn't apply in the town centre as there are obviously already taller buildings there and there is little residential property to be adversely impacted.

And the local residents went berserk too if I remember rightly. Ade Warby was one of them for those who remember him.

I hope it is a serious idea. It would be great for Doncaster and could attract investment and redevelopment of what is a run down area.
I'll believe it when I see it though.

I was also \"one of them\", although I didn't go berserk, just tutted loudly - no point identifying yourself to the old bill too early in the campaign  ;)

Me too, and fits in nicely with the council's plans for the riverside area. The usual strategy from developers is to chuck in an application for something too big and then negotiate down from there.

I think the Belle Vue proposal was dead in the water from day one as it was penned by the Irish landlords of old BV who we know were subject of a massive corruption enquiry in Dublin at the time (Moriarty).

Doncaster council had no inclination to gowards getting into any dealings with them as they had just been released from the shackles of the NUM Mafia which had been behind Donnygate.

The other issue being that the land is subject of 3 seperate leases, one owned by the council (the land developed into the bus lane) the other owned by the Golf club and the actual 2 acres on which the ground stood owned by the Irish.

The irish Owners are Westferry, I have just googled Moriarty tribunal Doncaster Rovers and had a quick skim read of the 50 or so pages.

GOOD GOD WE HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW LUCKY WE WERE TO HAVE JOHN RYAN ABOUT AT THAT TIME!

some funny editing on Wikipedia...

\"The Tribunal of Inquiry into certain Payments to Politicians and Related Matters (commonly referred to as the Moriori-bory-hoary-oary-arty Tribunal due to how long it has been drawn out) is an Irish Public inquiry established in 1997 into the financial affairs of politicians Charles Haughey and Michael Lowry. It is still ongoing, but has revealed significant tax evasion by these and other politicians and leading businessmen. As a consequence, the tax authorities have recovered millions of euros in settlements and penalties from many individuals.
The final report of the tribunal was expected to be published in mid-January 2010,[1] but was delayed, and will not be published until the day before the apocolypse.\"
