« on October 11, 2011, 05:37:10 pm by comeonrovers »
Need a stato here.  Can anyone tell me the last player that came through our Youth System (sign by us as a kid) to go and play in the top league?  Only one I can think of is Snodin

Speaks volumes

Did we not get Rufus from Derby though while he was still able to play in the intermediates?

I went to school with Rob Betts. He got signed by Coventry when they were in the top flight... I don't think he had much luck breaking into the first team though.

Spoke to his sister the other month and apparently he's playing in the Australian Leagues now.

I thought Mark Rankine started in Man utd youth, and i am unsure  he ever played in top league with wolves.

Having looked at \"Dates\" it appears the last one to come through DRFC youth set up ( and only DRFC youth ) was Paul Raven.

Robert Betts was the captain of Rovers Youth Team and played a few games for the first team in the 1997 relegation season. At the end of that season he was snapped up by Coventry (who refused to pay for him as Rovers were not a league team!!) and made his PL debut for them as a sub in a game v West Ham in 2000. Didnt play many games for them but in response to the question, last youth player to play in PL - must be Robert Betts.

Not the last one,and joined at 16 as an apprentice, but one many forget is Paul Holmes. We released him and he joined Torquay.About 4 year later, sat watching footie on the box and nearly spat me drink out when I recognised him playing for Everton! What a shock that was.Had a decent career in the end.Donny-Torquay-Birmingham-Everton-West brom-Torquay.

Not the PL but Greeny's played competitively for Ireland, which surely has to count for something. I see your point though, it is a struggle.

Did Nicky Limber play in the top flight?? If I remeber right, he went to Man City for £250,000 after a handful of games.....
