Also listened and agreed, the man is inspiring (although I wouldn't assume the kneeling position infront of him like Norfolk).

I'm still sceptical (call it the fear of the unknown), but will give 110%. Roll on Saturday
I still think there was a model for all occasions under Sean
I don't think there's a model for all occasions here (it's based solely on success ie staying put, finishing higher or going up.....fine if that happens)

If I may be so bold, I disagree on one part that he said, and that's suggesting we are doomed if we go down under the old regime. For every Forest, Leeds, Wednesday that he cites for not getting back up (2 did in not too long an absence and the other will eventually go back up), there is equally and more recently a Scunny or a Posh. Both have proven that they can go up, come back down and with a decent model/system and manager/chairman they can quickly come back up again, and in the case of Posh, even stronger.

In short, I only fear doom after relegation under this system. We may end up fielding a majority of youth players in L1.

I guess the difference would be CR that the fundamentals would remain if we got relegated to League One - even if the Galacticos all left. We would be left with crowds of 6-7k, a minor windfall from the sale of our leading players and a Board with a few quid. This together would keep us competitive in League One, although somewhat short of delivering promotion of course.

Just listened to the interview. Typical JR...heart on sleeve stuff. Did not detect any hint of \"desperation\", more a case of a man coming out fighting. Fighting to keep our club in this division until we can kick on to greater things.
Long may his reign continue in my view.

And if that makes me a \"happy clapper\" then so be it. Rather that than look for every opportunity to put a negative side on everything Rovers.

First off let me say I too have never questioned John Ryan's love for the club and his passion etc. I also disagree with those saying that he sounded desperate in this interview. I don't think he sounded desperate at all, sounded like his usual determined self.

But the way he wrote off 'Dave's thoughts was a cop out and it seems exactly the same thing that several of the people I've been referring to as \"blind JR followers\"...he basically took the fact he was a Sheffield Wednesday fan and used that to very immaturely say \"Oh well his opinion doesn't matter to me because he's a Wednesday fan from Doncaster\". That's just a way to try and side step half of the points he raised, good points that several DRFC fans have also raised and have good reason to be concerned about.

I did however like his reasoning about the fans not coming to watch us because of the other 'bigger' local clubs. He's right there and it wasn't a bad interview at all, besides saying that an SWFC fan has no right to an opinion when he certainly does, then he came across quite well for me and if this rumour about him stepping down ends up happening I will be extremely surprised based on this interview.

When Pol Pot is revealed as the mystery fourth major shareholder and Democratic Doncachea are glorious champions of the Premier League, we will make prahok out of anybody in a blue shirt and the opinions of Doncaster people with Sheffield Wednesday minds will no longer matter.  FACT.

RA I hear what you say in the rest of your post, but see JR's putting down of the wednesday fan about making a point on his major gripe about Donny people supporting other teams. He was there to be shot down and JR went straight to it.

Having said that, for sure JR is going to avoid issues that are difficult, anyone would. He did not at all sound desperate, thats a glass half empty perspective in this instance.

Personnely i think David from Doncaster who supports Sheff Wed sounds like a t**t and is frustrated his club doesn't have the ingenuity to try something like this!

I don't disagree with you - I'm not surprised JR did that and it's one of the reasons I always give him credit as a good talker in the media. I also think JR's point about everyone supporting other teams is true, no doubt I just think the way he put it across was quite immature and he didn't need to be like that, he could've made the same point in a different way.

Agreed!  Getting site admin to put the postcode of your place of birth above the VSC icon should be enough to root out any Fifth Columnists.

Thanks for posting the link to the interview.

I had a listen and heard the normal tub-thumping John Ryan to be honest.  But is that what I wnted to hear?

I know JR is all Donny Rovers and that he thinks the world of the club.  I also know that he would not knowingly do anything to harm the club so the fact that he bleeds red and white doesn't surprise me.

The dissing of the Wednesday fan, whilst fun and correct was also pointless and arguably counterproductive.  Ryan will not leave off the Leeds, Blades and Wednesday fans living in Donny.  I don't understand why beacause he's not going to change their allegance, certainly not by dissing them in the way he did.  Yes, he was a Wednesday fan so what's his problem? But then again, he raised some issues Rovers fans have raised.  Ryan claimed to want to clear things up with Rovers fans but slammed that opportunity to do so.  Fun - yes.  More thought needed - probably.

Ryan did tell me something that did make me feel better though.  I had the impression from the Mail article that the wage-bill had to be halved like NOW!  Ryan did not give this impression stating that a £4M wage bill would give us a break-even point.  From the interview I got the impression that if the wage-bill was £6M at the start of next season, Ryan would be happy but would still be looking to reduce it further which is fair enough.

On the other hand, the interview did give even more of an impression that Brammall has basically said no more money from him until they get the club on an even keel.

On the deal with McKay - well I didn't feel that I knew any more at the end of the interview than I did at the beginning.  When he tried to explain how it wasn't so drastic, he fell on his face somewhat with an amateur mistake.  He brought up the loan rules, stating that a team could only field 5 loan players (that is nealry half the team John).  The interviewer then asked a question about the rules (loans of foreign players) and Ryan immediately backed down saying he wasn't an expert.  Well you started talking about the Rules John!

All in all it was OK.  It could have been much better and I'm still not convinced about the direction he's sailing us.

I would be interested to read any response article from Ryan that the Mail might publish in the future.  If Ryan thinks the Mail's article put an unfair / unfortunate light on the McKay deal, then he should ask to give an interview in response.  Better still, they could do it together to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Form an orderly queue to trash me guys, but before you do.  I am a Rovers fan and have been for over 30 years.  I think John Ryan should be sainted whatever happens over the next months / years for the happiness his work has brought me (and that's not even considering Melinda Messenger's boobs).  But I don't think all that means fans do not have a right to question the man.  As long as they remain :rtid: while doing so.

Seems a straight interview to me. One word that jumps out of all this furor is \"desperate\". JR admits he is \"desperate to stay in the Championship\" and this deal shows that. It`s a gamble, not sure how big a gamble, i suppose we`ll only really find out if it goes wrong. I, like a lot of fans on here, prefered it when we were an honest club (who wants to see 5 loanee`s in the side?) but the fact is who`s gonna keep subsidising that at 3 million quid or so a year?
As for the fanbase, again JR is spot on. How many of you would change your aleigance to another local club if they started doing better than us? The fanbase will only improve over a generation, keeps the kids coming and hopefully we get em for life.
At the end of the day, the most important signing this season is the manager (who i`ll bet is loving the attention being taken from him). Doesn`t matter what players he does or doesn`t get, if he cant get em playing we`re going down anyway. Nothing that i`ve seen yet makes me think we`re any better while he`s been in charge regardless of results, the Leeds hammering was coming to us for weeks.
Of course he deserves time (and he`s got a little at least) to get it right and i`ll reserve my judgement for now, but apparently the Wrexham fans weren`t crying over him leaving (i have connections in N Wales).

Both tbh. Passion as always but desperate was his word.
Love him too, dont doubt whatever he does is what he believes is best for the club.
