The season is only over when...........
« on January 22, 2012, 10:18:49 am by godlike1 »
We can't mathematically get to 50 points.

Yep I'm disappointed about yesterday's result and how we just capitulate at the slightest amount of pressure away from home but............... We apparently showed some guts in the 2nd half with 10 men and before their goal and the sending off it could easily have been 2-2 with both defenses looking vulnerable

Saunders needs to make us difficult to beat away from home as well as at home and at the moment it's only at the keepmoat where that has worked so far.

We are too gungho on the road and I think deano has to take the blame for that a little with the formation and team but the players are also to blame for not being able to cope with an atmosphere that's against them instead of for them

Just think if we drew the remaining away games because we became an ugly no nonsense impossible team to beat on the road then that would be 9 points we would then only need 21 points from our last 10 home games which is not unachiveable

Agreed, although if we draw 9 away games that'll enable us to only need 6 home wins to get to 50 points.

We did extremely well with ten man for an hour - give the lads some credit.

After they nobbled Copps it made it difficult; up until then we were taking the game to them.

We've got enough playing talent, a spirited manager, and a committed Willie McKay in the background doing all he can, and we will stay up!

This side has a lot more fight in it than sods teams ever did. I can take defeat when we battle like that.

Ditch - less of that please. NorthNorfolkRover left a perfectly acceptable opinion so there's no need for such a response. Disagreeing with someone is one thing, but saying they talk shit because their opinion is different won't be tolerated on here. And he wasn't slagging SOD off from what I read?

Does his pro SO'D comment not 'hit' the anti SO'D criteria now seemingly all pervasive on this forum bjw ?

You know as well as i do that saying there was no fight in sods team is just an insult to sod aimed at causing arguments. It's pathetic. You can't say there was no fight in sods team. We didn't get to where we are now by having no fight in us  did we?

Have to say, I agree. It seems quite acceptable to trash our previous manager. I wonder how someone who suggested that Mr Saunders might be a tad \"tactically naive\" would have fared?

It's 'bang out of order' to sit tapping out anti SO'D diatribes and stupid quick quips....I'm with you on this one RB. Ffs will the mods on here stop this one-sided behaviour, we saw what happened to Glen and enough is enough.
Are some of you 'Johnny come lately's' that have only jumped on the bandwagon during the last 12 months of SO'Ds tenure or have some of you always harboured such ridiculous and ungrateful thoughts ? :( :( :(

Look I support this club and have for over 40 years and have never seen our supporters slag off previous players/managers who have contributed so much to the club. I support JR , DS and all our players ; there is no reason at all for me to deride those of the past in order to appear as if I am supporting the current regime. Why oh why do some feel that need ?

back to the main thing though i agree dean is way too attacking away from home we need to pack the midfield and just hold out and try and nick something from a corner or free kick. i got sick of watching teams do that to us last season and early this season

sometimes you lot make me laugh. If any of you read back through my previous comments, especially from around the time SOD went, I was against him being sacked! In fact, if any of you knew me you would know how bitter a taste it still leaves in my mouth about the whole situation! Add to the fact I haven't edit, deleted or censored the post!

Everyone is perfectly entitled to leave their opinion on the SOD either way. But when one poster decides to make their point by saying \"Don't talk shit\" I won't stand for that. I can't speak for other mods, but whenever I see a post I feel is unacceptable, I'll come out and say it.

Now man up and just accept that telling people they talk shit isn't the appropriate way of dealing with a different opinion.

:clapping:

My thoughts entirely. The arguing on here is ok, except when someone retorts with a simple swearword laden post and nothing else.

And, to add my two pence's worth, I think the last time we saw a Rovers team with as much fight was under Penney. That's not having a go at SOD, that's merely stating an opinion. I don't know what it's down to, manager, players attitudes, the half time oranges that now contain PCP, who knows, but I do know that what I've been watching recently is much more of a side willing to battle than capitulate like kittens. :boxing:

The guy is right though, there is much more fight and battle about the side than under SOD.  Some may see that as a criticsm of SOD, I see it as a difference.  Saunders sets the team up to be at a higher tempo and to close down and be more in the face of the opposition.  In some ways that should help us in this battle to stay up and it as the moment a positive of Saunders' management.  Now whether it succeeds or not will remain to be seen but it has certainly boosted us at home and very nearly got a result on Saturday, we are improving.

never thought there was any fight in SOD's team how manys times did we comeback from behind against teams or win/draw games with 10 men thats what batteling teams do. after seeing oster jump out of every tackle, that was 90/10 in his favour, makes me wonder how on earth you think we used to battle under SOD.

I think that image of Oster bottling every tackle is a great one for the past 5 years in terms of fight and guts. It's great to pass the ball well, you have to, but if you don't close teams down properly and with commitment, you're going to spend all match in your own half. Watch Barca play, yes, they are the best passing team in the world (Barring Swansea according my weekend paper...!), but they are also the best in the world at closing teams down and strangling them out of posession.

If you're talking about the players having a will to win, then that's out of the managers hands I think, but if you're talking about a way/style of playing I think in this case it's like this -
Thanks SOD for the fantastic passing football you gave us.
Thanks Saunders for injecting the team with bite and physicality and fitness to back it up with.

I think the problem here is how it was stated rather than what was stated. Rather than going into detail it was just stated with no evidence as such backing it up, that is why it looks so offensive to SOD, the difference between the post ditch dubbed as shit and Benaldo's, BFYP's and sedwards is those three state why they think that, and that makes for a better debate than just saying \"more fight than SOD's team ever had\".

That said I look back to games such as Blackpool away (3-2), Crewe at home (3-2), Scunthorpe at home (2-2 and 4-3), Crystal Palace away (3-0) Bristol City away (5-2) and all 4 games against Southend in 07/08 and how you can say that team never had any fight is beyond me. I can't remember hearing how badly we never fought for the game when leaving Pride Park in August 2008. As for the ten men comment; we showed real character and fight at Watford with 10 men didn't we? Your judging your opinions on one game yesterday. Benaldo also you think our season is over but yet we have a team with more fight than the last 6 years? The same team that showed fight at Burnley, Watford, Home to County?

There is fight in this team and maybe more is to come, but to say SOD's team lied down is an insult.

agree hayter, copps, shields and others under SOD used to turn up to a game looking like they just played one and were out of it after 20 mins hence conceding so many late goals and never scoring any of our own

Exactly that Mr Croft! The way in which he just stated it, without backing it up was wrong! And Benaldo how was it a \"swear word laden post\" may i ask? I said shit! God if you lot can't handle that maybe you should turn your computers off.

Fair enough bfyp, at least you backed up your post. But i still disagree. I stand by the fact that we wouldn't be where we are today if sod had no fight in him.
