Steam Train in area March 3 for those interested
« on March 03, 2012, 08:25:46 am by Donnywolf »
70013 Oliver Cromwell will be hauling passenger train today and will be along the Cantley Armthorpe / back of Rockware Glass line

Rarely see trains go over the Bridge between Sainsburys and McDonalds so here is an opportunity to see a curiosity.

It is due at St Catherines Junction at 11.45 and Stainy at 12.04 so along the route I outlined betweem those times - though these things are never to be relied on and are usually late

Oh my gosh, just looked at the prices. Extremely expensive isn't it, but what an experience.

when I was little I could see the trains go by on their way to Hunstanton out of my bedroom window across the fields at the back of our house. It's a crying shame that we lost the trains round here I think. :(

I love this..

John Betjeman! And railways as I can just about remember them too. Did you see the ticket inspectors at the station? The topiary in the hedge? Bloody hell.... The accountants will have seen to all that years ago. Cracking link Jucy. Thank you.

And Wolf: I wish I'd been stood on Cantley bridge! It's been years and years and years since I've seen a train go down that line. I'm lucky: I do still get to see some decent trains from time to time. Tornado went through Swindon 2 or 3 weeks back. But I remember Swindon station and the Works in the 70's when Western's, Warships were in abundance and even the odd Hymek turned up. The original Brush 4 namers too. Don't get much beyond a few 66's and shed loads of 125's these days.

Well I had to content myself with Thorne South when I wanted to be at Sainsburys at the end of Edenthorpe

Next Saturday though the same Loco is back and going down the Stainforth to Leeds line as we Stainyites used to call it. That will take it across Barnby Dun road level crossing and in my 28 years of living in Stainy and going over that crossing I bt I was only stopped 10 to 12 times - so seeing this Train is equivalent to your Cantley Bridge I suppose

Cheers JT

Check out the Link I posted earlier for a year long Calendar

I'm trying to work that one out Mr Wolf.

Lot's of track around Rockware area. I know where you mean re the bridge over Thorne Rd to Sainsburys. I then lose it through Armthorpe ie can't picture it. I think I then get it back in the middle of Sandal Beat Woods, lose it again, I assume?? it then go's under Bawtry Rd at the funeral place near Cantley lights.

Going out and about around Donny on the old bicyclette, I'm always intrigued to think these were the old lines (mineral ones) that must have swamped Donny back in the day. They now make lovely trails.

It was a deliberate diversion from the Main Line that took it thorugh Worksop Shireoaks Dinnington Matlby then it skipped by Tickhill going under A60 half way between Tick / Wadworth

It passed unber M18 on that Line a few hundred yards short of J3 then just between Race Course (at Rose Hill end) and Bessacarr before going through Sandall Beat Wood and through the cutting behind Donny Knights lust at entrance to Armthorpe then over road at Sainsburys over road at Rockware before joining Donny to Cleggy line at Long Sandall
