Perhaps nobody cares about this but I was sat thinking about this being our first relegation for 14 years and whether or not that was a good achievement or not in comparison to other clubs. So I thought about our fellow 91 football league clubs and thought which of them had managed to avoid relegation every season since we last did. So, going from the start of the 1998-1999 season I got the following teams (and the year they were last relegated):
Bolton Wanderers (1998)
Doncaster Rovers (1998)
Stoke City (1998)
Oldham Athletic (1997)
Leyton Orient (1995)
Yeovil Town (1995)
Fulham (1994)
Wigan Athletic (1993)
Chelsea (1988)
Stevenage (1988)
Aston Villa (1987)
Burton Albion (1977)
Tottenham Hotspur (1977)
Manchester United (1974)
Rochdale (1974)
Crawley Town (1970)
Accrington Stanley (1965 as Accrington Stanley (1891))
Liverpool (1954)
Everton (1951)
Arsenal (1913)
AFC Wimbledon (never relegated - this season will be the first time they finish outside the top 5 of any league)
Aldershot Town (never relegated/1989 as Aldershot F.C./Expelled 1992)
Morecambe (never relegated)
It isn't even a full divisions worth, just 23 out of 92, and I think it's worth noting that a lot of them are either top end Premier League teams or ex-Conference sides currently enjoying a first foray into the football league. Best of all, of the 24 Championship teams this season, all have suffered a relegation more recent than us. I was surprised that so few teams made up this list but maybe I'm the only one.
Note: I did do this entirely from memory (with the exception of checking I was right about Cardiff, Swansea and Leyton Orient and of course checking the last season each of those teams were relegated) so it might not be 100% accurate but I'm pretty confident it is.
