Dean says...
Some things ,nothing to do with football, that if I don't deal with them can effect the way the team plays over a period of time.
So behind the scenes i'm making sure everybody earns a living off the club and not stealing a living of the club.

I could be wrong but it sounds like he's not necessarily talking about the players but any member of  DRFC  who is on the pay roll.

Budget £2.8m finally a figure that shows we are not throwing money around nor do we have money to throw around ( skint) January may or may NOT see an increase  . The problems start when and if we go up then will the budget be ( I dare not even think that far )  as we are doing nothing short of miraculous on what some would have you believe is a high amount to play with.

How does it show we're skint exactly? :s all it means is we're not throwing money around, doesn't mean we can't but there's no point if you don't need to..

Dean says £2.8m.

Silent Majority says more like £4m: http://www.drfc-vsc.co.uk/index.php?topic=235807.msg284031#msg284031

Which one is it?

er yes, because we can? because there's not exactly a queue of clubs waiting to take them? still waiting for concrete proof that we're skint

Don't believe Deano he is not in a position to know is he ? Or is he!

of course he's going to know his own f**king budget..

Oh guys do come on!

SM has very clearly said, on many more than one occasion, what the original budget was and what it is now. It started off at £2.7M (or was it £2.8M? I can't remember) and it has been increased since.

I was being ironic , of course he knows and he has nothing to play with , the good run of results means he can make case but only if the future looks like paying off

I think you need to listen to the interview again. He doesn't say that his budget is now £2.7 or £2.8m. What he says is that his budget was smacked down from 8 or 9 million and the objective was not to slide any further, to stabilise. That is true.

However the owners of the club have continued to back the manager and have carried on supporting him by increasing the budget to where it now stands at £4m. There is no point in that interview where he says his current budget is £2.8m, he couldn't say that because that would be a lie. Its that simple!!

yes, he knows, but how do YOU know there's nothing to play with? like I say, why spend more than you need to? doesn't really say anything other than we're prudent to me..

What does it matter other than being assured that finances are under control and as far as the evidence goes so far, in good hands.

There are signs good signs ahead but you can't help but be concerned that we appear to retreat when ( in a good place) we did not strengthen the squad just incase we had some bad luck injury wise or even had a sending off or a player on 5 bookings or both at once . £2 m 4 m or 10m it's all retric proof is in the action or lack of in our case . I hope we get through the next round but it will be squeaky bum time.

He does say what his budget is and also says because of this he had delayed offering deals to those on trial just incase he needed to the money for loan players . I think it is YOU. Who chooses to have selective hearing , shame I always thought you understood the situation regarding his rather tight budget and didn't need to keep peddling false figures  . I think my version of the facts is based on listening to the organ grinder not his publicist .

I'm afraid you're not right Roving. SM quoted the gist of the statement accurately. The budget was £2.7M. Now it's gone up. Saunders didn't mention that because it wasn't necessary in the context of the interview. But it's well documented elsewhere.

Boring I know but he does say 2.7 - 8 down from 8-or 9m but there some on here that think rovers doing well because of the budget , I say we are doing well to spite the budget. That's all

I take it from that comment you expect us to compete in League 1 with a Championship budget? You really are mad.

Of course he does RR! But what you have failed to take into account is the context of his comments. That's what he started out with. It's not what he has today. I don't think DS claimed it was the figure he is working to now. Using an out of date, indeed, plain wrong figure, to make an argument now is misleading, more than ethically dubious and does every Rovers supporter a huge disservice.

And here's me - who don't even like DS very much!

Cheers :)
