I,m looking to get a mortgage ,been to my bank ,didn`t get much joy there as they only wanted to quote a lot more than I need,so does any one know an good ,trust worthy companies/ individuals that I can contact,cheers

A broker is probably the best bet Draytonian. You will end up having to pay them something (couple of hundred maybe) if you go ahead via them but you do get the benefit of their access to the databases of all the mortgage offers on the market. It's still not easy at the moment though. I'm wanting a mortgage to buy another house with. You would not believe the bullshit they come up with when they refuse. And I'm an A1***** punter! I tick all the boxes. even when you do find something, watch out for fees upfront. They can be truly frightening. Often you can add them to the loan - but whatever way you go, it's a scam. Lower fees equals higher rates though. I loathe banks and building societies....

How much you wanna borrow? Maybe I'll lend it to you!

Worth noting that some lenders, such as HSBC, don't deal with brokers. A good broker should still recommend them if they're your best bet, but as the broker won't see anything for it, they may not.

As Bob says, a broker will probably be the best bet, he should know which lenders are lending to which type of borrowers, A1, buy to let, first time etc etc.
Years ago I applied to one and got turned down flat, I spoke to a broker who basically said if you had applied to them 6 month ago they would have accepted you but they are no longer taking your type of borrower, so go to x y or z lender and you will be accepted but a b and c will refuse you

Nationwide are excellent. I got someone a mortgage there no problem when Santander wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole. If you have no joy there then a broker is your best bet. Go to more than one though.

Doing simple things like checking your credit history is accurate should improve your chances of being approved by a lender.

If you're buying through an estate agent, most of them have their own mortgage advisor, usually independent of any particular bank.

Good point. I bought a house 6 months ago and the WH Brown Mortgage broker was falling over himself to give me 4 mortgages for me to buy more houses. Because I feel house prices are on a downward trajectory for years to come I decided just to buy one for now for cash.

If you live near a Leeds building society they do a good mortgage, i've got mine through them, albeit mine is on staff rate as my girlfriend works for them. But ours is good. Pop in for a chat with them.

I also need a mortgage sorting in the next 3 months. We have just been checking money supermarket to compare mortgages.

Regarding brokers suggested here, do they have access to rates and lenders that won't appear on money supermarket?

the best we have seen is Brittanias first time buying rate with no fees and 3.99%

Some brokers have exclusive access to certain deals with lenders.

But equally, some lenders won't deal with brokers, so no broker can arrange all mortgages.
