Thanks 1879. I've just searched on the FL website and, seemingly, there's not a single reference to prize money anywhere. If it is only £25K, it must be dwarfed by the gate receipts from the lay offs though. Still, I suppose a few million here and there would make up for it.

On bbc radio sheffield they reckoned it was worth £6m getting promoted today! well done lads!!

That's because of the new TV deal starting next season,  more money for the top 2 divisions. The downside is that parachute payments to relegated prem teams will last for 4 years. Even more of an uneven playing field.

The prem is trying it's hardest to have a "closed shop" of 30 or so teams. The same faces will be best placed to come back up from the Championship.

Mind,  Wolves and Blackburn are doing their best to prove that getting parachute payments doesn't always mean you can bully the league positions.
