Playing right now, it's the first half. Final group game against Botswana, they need to win and hope Ethiopia don't to have a chance to get to the World Cup. At the moment SA are 2-0 up and Ethiopia are 1-0 down, so it's all good! Khumalo and Furman both started.

South Africa out of the World Cup. They won 4-1 but Ethiopia won 2-1. Furman got MOTM.

That looks to me like the other player has gone over the ball and is just about to run his studs down Furman`s shins

Quiz question,
And I don't know the answer:

Who was the last DRFC player to score in a first class competitive Internationl Fixture?

Did Hume score for Canada last year?
Shiels didn't I don't think while with us, nor Heffs.
JJ, McCammon, Mulligan?

Just curious like.

Was thinking exactly the same, but Hume scored October 16, 2012 against Honduras. He was on loan so I wonder if any current player excluding loanees has scored in an international match?

According to Wikipedia McCammon scored a hattrick in Sept 2006 for Barbados and he signed for us in Pre Season 2006.

I believe that before this match a total of 10 goals have been scored by Rovers players in international matches - 4 by Mark McCammon for Barbados (2006), 3 by Eddie McMorran for Northern Ireland (1953) and 1 each by Eddie Perry for Wales (in 1937, the first Rovers goal in international matches), Jimmy Walker for Northern Ireland in 1955 and Iain Hume last year for Canada. If you count the old Home Internationals as competitive (and they certainly were) then I believe all 10 were scored in competitive matches.

Further to the above today was not the first time 2 Rovers players have appeared in the same international match - it has happened no fewer than 6 times before.

The first was Chris Giles and Kit Lawlor lining up together for the Republic of Ireland in the 2-2 draw with Norway on 26 November 1950.

The other 5 occasions, all in the 1950's  involved various combinations of the 4 Northern Ireland internationals Len Graham, Eddie McMorran, Harry Gregg and Jimmy Walker, although never did any 3 play in the same match. The most recent of the 5 occasions was Harry Gregg and Eddie McMorran playing in Northern Ireland's 3-0 win over Portugal on 1 May 1957

thanks Brian

Have just about managed to bring enough of it over here to County Down, the rest is in storage. Just written a related article for the next fanzine.

Only in qualifying matches - none of the 10 goals above were in a Finals Tournament. Dean's yesterday continued that pattern.

Theo Robinson was an unused sub for Jamaica in their World Cup qualifier in Panama on Friday. He is in the squad for their home game with Costa Rica on Tuesday.

Furman and Khumalo were released from the SA squad to play Zimbabwe next week (a friendly) so will be flying back to the UK soon.

Luke McCullough will be in action for the Northern Ireland Under-21s against Belgium tomorrow night.

Must be one hell of a come down to play for rovers in front of 6000 moaning Yorkshire folk after playing in front of 1000's of passionate fans
