With Turnbull getting a yellow card yesterday ,does anyone remember why Eddie Gormley had to go in goal vs Scarborough, I can`t remember if the keeper that was sent off or who it was

Paul Crichton was sent off. He rushed off his line to intercept a through ball. Caught it about 15 yards off his line, and as he fell, he rolled out if the area.
Shocking decision to consider that to have been deliberate handball.

Thats right Billy a Tuesday night early on in the season if I'm not mistaken.
It happened in the first ten minutes and I think we lost 2-0. Mind you we always seemed to lose at Scarborough!

More recently didn't we have our goalie (I have forgotten who) sent off away against Chester in 1996-7. Colin Cramb went into goal, saved the resultant penalty, but we still lost 6-0 (I think that may also have been the score at the time of the penalty/red card incident)

Dutch- the 'keeper concerned was Dean Williams. IIRC (I had the misfortune of being at the game) the dismissal was for a second yellow. Deano had earned the first a little earlier for giving the ref an earful. Cramby went in goal and saved the penalty and managed to keep a clean sheet.

There was one after that though. In March 1998 Craig Davis was sent off for a studs-up lunge on a Cardiff player- he got a three match ban for serious foul play rather than the usual one game for DOGSO. Robert Pell took over in goal and conceded 4 as Rovers lost 7-1.

Many thanks TRB. I didn't remember that Davis one, but I did sort of lose a bit of interest that season, and it pre-dated much internet DRFC information which made things much easier for international exiles.

As always I bow to your superior knowledge which would make any Mastermind finalist quake in fear.

The dismissal of Paul Crichton at Scarborough would have been on 18th September 1991 when we lost 0-1. That season we won only one game before Christmas but managed to avoid finishing bottom of the League on the final day of the season thanks to a fine run under Steve Beaglehole.

Paul Reece made his only appearance at Scarborough on 26th September 1992 as a locum for Crichton who had been sent off for DOGSO two weeks earlier at Crewe. It was the only game Crichton missed all season. Again, I believe Eddie Gormley deputised between the posts after Crichton had been sent off.
