I had all intentions of turning up at the AMEX in August 2011 with two mates, but one of us decided to drive down - we got stuck on the M25 for 5 hours and listened to the game on the radio! I think starting something as you mean to go on is evident there in a negative fashion!

Anyway, I am going to the game this Saturday (with all intentions of making it - obviously) but part of me isn't looking forward to it that much with the weather set to be absolutely awful and these tubes strikes/tube strikes talks occuring - but, reading this thread cheers me up a considerable amount.

Is there a pub suitably close to the stadium so we can get there in good time for Swansea vs Cardiff?

Thanks for the help & advice BrightonEye. COYR!

The rail network is extensive darn sarf..

For the Aug 11 game I parked at a station further up the line from Brighton (Crawley I think) and got the train from there to Lewes, with a change to Falmer.  Thus avoiding Brighton centre, and from some of the advice on here there are a few OK pubs in Lewes?  I am not sure about parking at Lewes station itself as I guess that may get busy?

Also after the game you're heading away from Brighton, possibly slightly easier on the train?

I parked at Lewes station - dead easy. Can't remeber the exact price but parking was reasonable and we got a 2 for 1 deal on the train. Getting back we had to wait maybe twenty minutes for a train but from Lewes we were out and home in record time!
I think it took 5and a half hours to get there and less than 3 to get back!

Don't you get free rail travel to and away from the ground within a certain radius with the match ticket? sure I've read that somewhere.

What a nightmare day that was, we only just made kick off after begging them to let us in to the Mill Street Park & Ride despite the fact they had just closed it. Some arse ran into the back of my car going up the sliproad where they had shut the M25 and it was just all in all a VERY bad day. I think the next time I go to Brighton it will most certainly be on the train.

That's correct. Brighton to Falmer is free.

In fact, every match ticket includes free travel (by rail or bus) to and from the Amex within a fairly wide zone – see opening post for details. So if you're coming by train, just book as far as Haywards Heath. If you're driving down, and don't want to go into Brighton afterwards, then parking at Lewes (costing £5) makes good sense. And there are some very decent pubs in the town.

As for pre-match drinking, the only local pub in Falmer is small, and now home fans only. But there are loads of good pubs around Brighton station – particularly the Evening Star if you like real ale. And don't forget, the Amex away end serves real ale – and always includes an ale from the visitors' locality

According to the current BBC forecast, no rain at all during daytime tomorrow. And with pitch drainage being excellent, I'd be very surprised indeed were the game not to go ahead.

For those driving down, visit parkatmyhouse website, you can rent a drive from £5, we did this for our last visit to the Amex.

Heavy rain - light rain around kick off as things stand.

If you're going into Brighton, then the Evening Star is an absolute must.  A stonkingly good pub. Roy Chuter used to be the landlord - but it was his favourite watering hole for decades before he took that on. You may see the ghost of him getting me totally legless in there..... Everyone knows where it is. Just ask. It's easy to reach from the station and easy to find.

Tragic day all round then!?

I'd say yours was a lot more stressful but you got to see the game........ So who had the better day (if that's possible!)

Also, as someone above has said, Lewis Dunk's tackle on Billy set us up for the experiment.............

Amex Refreshments update, just in: –

Tomorrow’s special pie will be a Sussex Pie, filled with potatoes, minced beef, red onions, carrots, leeks, peas, bacon, beef stock, beef gravy, garlic, red wine, herbs and seasoning. This will be available in all concourse kiosks.

Meanwhile, the guest ale for this fixture is Winter Chocolate Biscuit, brewed by the Batemans Brewery. This will be available in East Stand upper, East Stand lower and West Stand lower concourses from the north-end kiosks, from the centre kiosk on the West Stand upper concourse, from the centre kiosk on the North Stand concourse and in Dick’s Bar. [And the away end, obviously!]

The complete pre-match brief is on seagulls.co.uk under Latest News.

Can someone bring a few back with em and drop 'em off for me here please?

In fact, could someone kidnap whoever it is does the catering at the Amex and shy him upto the Keepmoat for that meeting with the useless Lindleys (or whatever they're called today).
