Thorne Colliery Cricket Club

For all Thorne folk.

An institution in Thorne/Moorends, will be scrapping their Saturday Team. Lack of interest

All those years and local folk playing on the rec at Moorends. The rec was a very busy place on a summers Saturday afternoon. Golf course, tennis courts, Thorne Colliery FC with its excellent stand, the back-drop of the Colliery and Pit Tip, allotments, parks, ice cream van and lots of people.......and of course cricket pitch and pavilion.

Isn't it, wasn't it, marvellous. Happy Days

My dad used to take me down all the time, both summer and winter.  I loved  it.

Went down for first time in 20 years last summer and it was dead, very depressing, guess the kids dont want to play sport nowadays

Just too many different attractions these days - and if TC have run out of players there must be others close to the same "fate"

Very sad!

I played for TC's second XI for several years but age and a dodgy back finally caught up with me and I had to retire. We were struggling for players even then so it's no surprise.

I lived across the road from the rec once upon a time, could watch the cricket from my landing.

It's a shame really. As you say, it was an occasion every time it was on there, but nobody bothered with it in the end sadly.
