Jobs
« on May 12, 2014, 08:26:23 pm by roverstillidie91 »
Hi

Does anyone know any administration jobs going at the moment?

I currently work for DMBC on a temporary contract so if anyone knows any job leads I would be really grateful.

Cheers

Get yourself in agencies. We recruit our admin staff through agencies usually on fixed term contracts.  The one working with me came through that way.

Agencies are the scourge of the employment market, especially the ones that use zero hours contracts, the sooner zero hours is made illegal the better, and hopefully agencies will follow!

I'm not a huge fan of agencies. But zero hours contracts can be good things for companies and staff.  They just need administering a lot better and probably using a little less.

Have you look into self employed contracting? I spend the best part of 2 years working on a contract at Bank of America with no previous experience. The pay is brilliant.

Take a look at
www.hazellcarr.com
www.huntswood.com

I think deloitte and capita do similar things as well.

Its a case of sending the CV in and they'll be in touch if there's anything local to you. With some admin experience you'll be snapped up.

How can zero hour contracts be good for staff? How can anyone plan their life if they don't know from one day to the next if they have any work? We're going back centuries, to the days when you turned up at the factory gates and the ganger then chose who he wanted!

We have staff who are old and don't want to always have to work. Thus we have the option to request them if needed. They are great for students, retired persons or mums with kids for example.  It's flexible for both. In some situations they don't work at all.  Some industries can't justify full time staff in some it does get abused no doubt.

My lad had a job on the bins through the agency HRGO, they phoned him up one evening for him to work a shift the next day, he got the first bus into town 5.45am to get to the depot at the end of Wheatley Hall Road, only to be sent back home because the person he was covering had unexpectedly returned from sick leave, never got a penny for turning up on time and was out of pocket by his bus fare. He was on a zero hour contract, now you tell me if that is right.

Nope. But then I said some situations if used correctly didn't I?  In some jobs sickness is so high that you can end up with lots of staff not turning up which if permanent you then may have to pay sick leave and cost you money and you get nobody in to do the work. That's not right either, particularly if it's say a school that doesn't have catering staff for example. It's useful to have that backup. It falls over if you don't use it right like in that example.  But then I wouldn't advocate it's use like that. If you call in that resource you then pay for it. There has to be some back up.

If you have got a family to support don't accept a job that is offering a zero hour contract, simple really.

As a student zero hour contracts are perfect. I work when I get offered hours and can decline if i have plans or don't want to work.

I was self employed for 5 years and after work had dried up I had to take the gamble of a job with good pay on a zero hour contract or stick it out being self employed. I decided to cut my losses and go for the zero hours contract, I was told after 3 months a permanent deal would be offered to me but nothing came up 12 months later after turning up everyday, grafting and keeping my head down I was finally offered a full time job which I'm still doing now. The zero contract is firmly in favour of the employer as you can be dropped without any fuss, but thankfully I was offered a deal so I can't knock it as it got my foot in the door
