question
« on May 19, 2014, 07:58:31 pm by selby »
If a player who is on our retained list can trigger a release clause in his contract, although the length of contract has not expired which I understand is the case.
Can we still demand a transfer fee as the length of his contract has not expired?
In other words does it allow them to talk to other clubs and we broker a deal with the other club or just go if offered a better deal?.
Sorry for my ignorance and hope that someone can explain it.

As far as I'm aware a release clause for relegation will be activated by a player for an already agreed fee. Therefore if a club meets the agreed fee then we have to accept. I don't think it's a release clause in terms of them leaving for free. If that makes sense.

I could be wrong though!

That was the terms of Habib Beye's release clause apparently, he could leave for free if we were relegated.

He may very well have done, but what's that got to do with the terms of the release clause in his 18 month contract? Which is what this thread is about.

Like all contracts, the exact terms and conditions will determine what happens.

I agree Bob,but reading other posts on this forum, and the comments made,I thought I would ask the Question to see if any of the trolls critisising the club and assuming players position knew any more than the rest of us.
