Don't live in Donny but heard through my facebook feed there was an EDL protest in the town today. Apparently cost the coppers an extra £300k. Searched on google and found a video of it. A few observations: At one point they were on a football field somewhere in Hexthorpe (I think) and someone on a loudspeaker was saying words to the effect of "The people of Hexthorpe asked us to come out today" and "we are the EDL, We are not the anti-Islam movement but Islam is a problem".Most looked like hooligans seemingly twitchy for a fight. Some were holding up Scottish flags, others Israeli flags !?

I couldn't help but get the feeling that these people generally fall into two classes: Those looking for a tear-up because its entertaining to them and the downright confused. 

Maybe what is confusing them is that they are seeing 'immigrants' in their everyday lives - in the supermarkets, in the hospitals, playing for rovers - and they're thinking 'actually these are just alright/normal people' but that there is somekind of fundamental built-up anger or feeling of being disenfranchised. It seems to suggest to me that immigration is not a problem in this country and people don't view it as a major problem. 100 so called EDL members marching in a town the size of Donny is next to nowt. It will get blown out of proportion by the media though because the minority get heard in a democracy.

As Radio Sheffield said 100 to 150 demonstrators 350 police now I appreciate some bits of counter demonstration but   perhaps a bit over the top?  although some reports say there was some scrapping

Approx 200 EDL and equal number of UAF & locals protesting. Both outnumbered by the coppers.

As the EDL marched back towards town, a number of Hexthorpe residents "encouraged" them to get a move on resulting in a couple of minor flash points but nowt serious as SYPD generally had it well covered.

I bet you were really surprised that there were no English doctors. We are one of the richest countries in the world with one of the best education systems and we can't provide enough doctors and nurses. The previous Labour government should hang its head in shame at allowing this situation to develop.

If you'd been in a London hospital you would have struggled to find one English nurse. In fact in London, no matter what the profession you'd struggle to find an English born worker.

Re the London workforce, what a load of b*llocks. And that is coming from someone who was part of it!
