Liam Wakefield?
« on August 07, 2014, 02:06:09 pm by The Red Baron »
Has he signed a new contract yet? About a week ago I read he'd been made an offer and was considering it. He played last weekend but I've seen nothing since.

Just wondered if he was going to sign or had decided to try his luck elsewhere?

Maybe he wants just more than minimum wage.

Either way, we'll be due a fee if he moves on.

I think he's the kind of player we'd do well keeping for at least another season or two, esp with Jones coaching. Good back up and will improve.

If he does not sign before tomorrow lunchtime it looks like Lund and Askins will be our defensive cover

The offer must be a poor one if he has not signed straight away.

Why?  It may just be comparable with offers from other clubs?

What would you say is a good/poor offer for a relatively unproven young player?

Well if PD is consistent Wakefield won't be anywhere near squad until he signs
Agree he could learn a lot from Jones

Could be more due to the amount of game time he's likely to get, because I think it's odds on that at some stage this season we will also bring in centre half cover whether that's on loan or a signing.

It would be madness by him to drop down the leagues to get game time when he's developing quite nicely here.

I agree and think it would bite him in the arse like Maxted but would imagine that's likely to be more the reason than financially, because any see any other team better than us coming in for him so can't see the offers been more lucrative for him.

Agreed, and with things as they are at the moment he can probably expect a bit of game time too if injuries/suspensions bite.

The offer can't have been that poor then?

Anything is better than nothing but happy for him and the zsquad lets hope with Rob Jones tutoring he can develop his skills

If his pre season performances are anything to go by god help us! He can't play with McCullough.
He has reminded of Harper pointing here there and everywhere and completely losing the man he should be marking. For some reason he doesn't seem to want to take any responsibility and, as on Saturday when Rotherham scored he's looking round and pointing at other players as though it's everbodies fault except his
Can only hope that if he does play he has Jones or McCombe alongside him to sort him out
JMHO

Someone just pointed out on twitter he was decent when we played at QPR last season. Completely forgot about how solid he looked against a v good team that day.
