I thought the remake / one off last year was poor and would let the powers that be realise that it was "finished"

Instead they said that people were interested and wanted more. They were wrong

It was good years ago but David Jason (at his best) is not Ronnie Barker and it shows. I am sorry but this show is about as funny as Last of the Summer Wine - coincidentally by the same writer

I didn't think the original series was funny and certainly didn't bother watching any of the new episodes. Taking the piss out of people that stammer is not my idea of humour. I just hope the new episodes learned from this mistake.

A missed opportunity I reckon.

Turning Granville into Arkwright is a mistake. There would have been more opportunities for new humour if Granville had just got older. The new Granville, Leroy, doesn't seem to have much character. Johnny Vegas isn't bad though.

The problem is Roy Clark hasn't shown a lot of imagination in his writing for a longtime and just does things to death. The early Summer Wine wasn't bad. The original Open All Hours wasn't bad, though it was of its time.

Apparently Clark was furious when they cancelled Summer Wine, though it was obviously long past it's sell by date. He was very disappointed when Patricia Routledge told him she thought Keeping Up Appearances had run it's course. It had. It looks like he wants to run this into the ground now.

If Clarke had wanted to revive an old series for his pension, he'd have done better with Rosie. There might have been some milage in showing how policing has changed over the years.

Rosie in fact was funny ... and should have lasted and be remembered longer than it was.

I find the other writings of Roy Clarke unfunny. LOTSW is/was poor as is the latest SOAH Series although the original OAH shows were ok as Ronnie Barker carried the piece

I also did not like KUA with Bouquet / Bucket. In all cases you are waiting as in Allo Allo (by different writers) for the characters to deliver their equivalent of "listen very carefully" "you stupid woman" etc

Back in the days when it was still full of proper Yorkshire characters like Blamire, Wally Batty, Sid the cafe owner. It wasn't at all bad then.

In the early years it was much more philosophical and dialogue driven instead of the 'daft stunt for Compo of the week' thing it became.

Any joke can be good at first but constantly flogging it to death makes it decidedly unfunny.
The best comedy shows are those that dont have many episodes, and leave us wanting more whilst savouring the repeats...... Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Phoenix Nights and most recently Derek fall into that category for me.
LOTSW was good, very good at first, and i saw them as iconic figures and role models for later life when i would return to Yorkshire to have a few more daft days and nights before death.

Blimey, I remember the theme song to Rosie, can't say I remember much of the actual show mind you.
I can't bring myself to watch Still open all hours, for one thing I just can't imagine the shop without Ronnie Barker and for another I must be just about the only person in the UK that isn't keen on David Jason.

It's odd watching it for me as I used to live about 30 yards from the shop and my sister still lives round the corner on Clarence Avenue..!

I had just left school and started work at Peglers, just at the bottom of the street from the shop.   During the location shooting loads of the workers used to go watch the shooting during their lunch break.  I wondered what all the fuss was about and couldn't be bothered.  Kids eh?

Enjoyed the original show but was massively underwhelmed with the recent attempt.
