Apparently he tried to jump In front of a lorry but mistimed his jump and landed on top of it. Depression must be so horrendous that most of us couldn't even begin to comprehend.

Is this confirmed or rumour?

I think those of us that have never suffered from depression will never understand it or it's effects, thats probably why comments are made like pull yourself together

They say that only intelligent people get depression. That's why no one who has had it would offer such advise as pull yourself together, they would be too intelligent to offer such advice.

I've had it (OK surprisingly enough, you might mock!), but I can confirm it was the worst time of my life. It was horrible. You discover that there is a line of acceptability that you have sunk below, and dare never, ever sink below again.

I was lucky. I knocked (still do) about with a guy who offered no advice or empathy (he knew as well as me that he wasn't qualified to do so, having never experienced it). He just listened to me while my problems unravelled themselves.

I think (hope) I've learned not to go near that line again. It was 23 years ago so hopefully it won't happen again. At least if it did I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel - something that I thought was never going to be there last time.

I have the utmost respect for Clarke and I suspect he is rock bottom right now.

The stats on people needing psychiatric help at some point in their life is frightening.

1 in four men and 1 in 3 women.

From that you can take it that most families will have a family member that will suffer from this illness and my family is no exception with a family member clinically depressed following treatment for cancer.

I wish Clarke and his family all the best in this very difficult period and not forgetting the poor lorry driver involved.

It's an illness I used to mock as a excuse if I'm honest..Not now though I've seen the effects first hand but luckily attitudes from neanderthals like me are changing and people now recognise how destructive it can be

Refreshing to see the attitudes ib this thread compared to some other corners of the internet. I really hope Clarke gets better, depression is a horrid illness that can pull a person into some horrible places.

I've suffered from it on and off for about 25 years but didn't know it at first. Not very well understood or correctly diagnosed. It's s f**ker.

Alicksmyhero.

Yep Been there got the teeshirt - I hope all is well at home.
Mine was misdiagnosed in 92, you know the rest...Lifelong medication for it. You just never knw when or how long it will last. Yep they do call me Mad Mick at various times but I assure you all I am not the one you may link me with. Depression can cost you lots and especially the ones around you.  Up the Rovers

A good bit of treatment would be a very good win against Bristol

Hi Bally,

Nice to hear from you again Mick and I hope you are well.

On reflection we had a superb Christmas with more good than bad days. We did plan to have Christmas in Edinburgh, calling in to Thorne on the way, but that fell through at the last minute due to the Norovirus.

As you say a win against City on Saturday really does have an effect on all of us.

UP THE ROVERS.

Get well soon Clarke your not alone mate.
