Mad as a box of frogs just right for a goalkeeper

I remember reading a book years ago called "goalkeepers are different" - anyone else familiar with that?
I used to read that book to my son when he was young.  Maybe that's why he never became a goalkeeper 😁

By Bill Naughton, it was a colection of short stories and right good it was too. I'll have to see if I can get hold of a copy and reread them and see if they still hold up today.

I seem to recall it was a full length novel. but definitely good. I'm wondering if I'm thinking of a book by a different author but I definitely remember that title. Good sports fiction is quite rare!

My mistake. Goalkeepers Are Different was as you say a full novel, by the excellent journalist Brian Glanville. I was getting it mixed up with The Goalkeeper's Revenge by Bill Naughton..! Both are very good but I think Goalkeepers Are Different will have aged worst as it felt out of date when I read it in the 70s!

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was Brian Glanville but couldn't remember the name. I don't think I have my copy any more. A good few years old now, but probably still worth a read.

I actually don't remember reading it at all, just the title.  Maybe looked at it in the library because of the title.
