I've been informed that Callum Stockton is at Buxton.

*edit*

Here you go...  http://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/news/article/foundation-friday-football-academy-student-makes-debut-1744898.aspx

Is Callum any relation to Cole Stockton at Tranmere?

One of the other problems we have in this country is that we're too eager to tell a kid that he or she is brill!

You tell the kid in your team (or your son/daughter) constantly that they're great and they'll believe it creating a very fixed mindset and very little room for them to acknowledge/reflect on their own self-development and self-improvement.

A kid needs to be taught that development is about lots of things that are more important and have a greater bearing on their abilities than raw-talent such as hard work, thinking skills and learning behaviours.

A lot of kids get taken on by clubs and think they've made it - then boom when 99% of them get released - they've spent years being told they're good and talented and can't cope with what is perceived to them as a failure!

Kids nowadays need reminding and telling it's ok to 'fail' and make mistakes as long as you learn from them - this can't happen in academies and on Sunday mornings where the result is really all that counts!

I see this mentality on sunday mornings in under 7 games. It's ridiculous because results aren't published and there are no league tables.
Something else I hate is when I hear coaches or parents screaming at their kids to "get rid of it" when they have a man on.
My boy did a Cruyff turn in his own area and he got shouted at for doing it there. He should have been praised for having the confidence to try that.
This is one of the reasons why I want to get involved in kids football, it should be about fun, development and friendships.

Damn right Nudga - it's nice to win every now and again (or if you're a little lucky and have a particularly good batch, the majority of the time) and see the odd bit of technical brilliance from a young un  but primarily it should be about fun, developing an enjoyment of the game and fostering a team work ethic too.
