From wiki.

January 2013, along with several other people, including fellow footballers, Coppinger faced a race-fixing inquiry with allegations of corruption in gambling on horses to lose on Betting exchanges in nine races between 1 November 2010 and 31 March 2011. He strongly denied the charges,[20][21] though was found guilty of corrupt and fraudulent practices by the British Horseracing Authority and given a three-year ban from any dealings with registered racing individuals.[22][23]

Well if it is on wiki it must be true then?
I spoke to Copps about this just after it hit the press and he told me he had never spoken to Chopra.

I've mentioned this before, Copps was never convicted of any criminal offence, nor was he even charged for any. The British Horseracing Authourity are in cahoots with the bookies, and we all know bookies don't like losing

Also worth pointing out that the standard of proof required is the Civil standard - ie "balance of probabilities" rather than the "beyond reasonable doubt" required for a Criminal conviction.

Having read something about the case I actually thought it would have been laughed out of a civil court. Because footballers were involved they seemed determined to bring in a guilty verdict  "pour encourager les autres."

In Chopra's case, warning him off probably did him some good!
