Gary Carling played in goal. I remember your name, but don't remember playing in same team, I was a late starter so 65 - 66 would be my time. Maybe at Interhouse matches ( Ripon, Durham and York ) we played against each other. Certainly Gary,s Lad Micky ( junior ) played for DRFC. not sure about other one.

I actually Replaced Duncan at LB.

Gary Carling lives in Woodhouse and has been Mayor of Hatfield Town Council... Often I see him with strange short hair, never been the same man since he had his hair cut he he

Looking back we would have been in the same team but I was born on the 31st August and I was a day too old to play in 66. We were the first form to stay on to the fifth form. Mr Alison requested permission for me to play in the senior team but the powers that be said, no.

Mind is playing up a bit with me. Maybe I was in second 5th form, though I thought till now I was in first lot. Cant remember who was actually in my lot, except Gary Nesbitt, John Bytheway, Geoff Sill, Kenny shaw, Carole Coy, Linda beckett ( that's about 50% of class ). I must have a photo somewhere.

Yes, you were the second lot in the fifth year.

Kenny Shaw was a mate of mine but he came to very sad end in 68ish,thats life or the lack of it.

It's quite frightening actually just how many 'sad ends' afflict our school mates. Two of mine were killed  by the time we were 22. Lewis Evans and John Heeley if anyone recognises the names? John was a pretty good footballer. I reckon a lot on here will have known his Dad: Denis Heeley, ex Headmaster of Wilby Carr.

Kenny a good 100mts man. I think Geoff Sill also "left early", on railway outside glassmaker.

Kenny, like his cousin George Shaw, were very verry fast over 100yrds, made me look like an action replay!

Nice to reminisce WR with you but we seem to have taken it off topic. Perhaps we could PM with an update with "were are they now ?"
I left in 1966 and only visit Thorne now, to my brothers, so I have lost all contact with my old school mates.

Yorkiered, re Kevin Keegan, my mother always tells the story of his dad taking him for a walk in the pram, calling at the Taddy for a pint or two & then going home with wee Kev still in the pram outside the Taddy.

Do you remember the school getting the afternoon/day? off when Rovers played Liverpool in the cup replay in Jan'74 on account of an 'esteemed former pupil' being in town?

You were lucky! At Danum Grammar I had to sneak out past the guard dogs and searchlights!

Lol!! Were you at Danum when that game was played Neil? I was there too. If it was Jan 1974 I was in the Upper 6th. where were you?

I got out too. They werene't keen on letting folk go were they?! But I'd been to the first match at Anfield. I wasn't going to miss the replay :)
