I reckon there would probably be a correlation between age and which local rival you choose .

To me there are 2 Teams that I always LONG for us to beat a) Barnsley and b)Scunthorpe United and I take your point on the other Teams you mention and even add Rotherham to that as to me they are in that category too even though Ground to Ground (17 miles) they are nearer than Barnsley (20) or
Scunny (24)

For me its Rotherscum and Scumthorpe!

It's nice beating Barnsley, Sheff Utd and leeds for bragging rights!

Scunthorpe, Rotherham, Dingles in that order for me.

I love beating Leeds and the Sheffield clubs more for the retribution against generations of turncoats in Donny than anything else but they're not really derby games.

Scunny must be one of our most frequent opponents of the last 21 years which encompasses my time as a Rovers supporter and our record against them is brilliant. Hope we keep it up on boxing day!

One of my fondest Rovers memories is the 30-yarder that Colin Cramb scored at Glanford Park. Nathan Tyson's hat-trick at the KMS last season is my lad's favourite Rovers memory so far.

For me I would say Rotherham and scunny on a par then Mansfield is a tasty game as usual, even Grimsby and York too but also rival games but friendly to me are hull, Barnsley and Huddersfield.

Rotherham, Scunny, Barnsley. Not really too bothered about them 'big cheeses' from Sheffield. Would include Mansfield into the list though.

Scunthorpe are our main rivals for me, because the rivalry is seen both ways, the rest still look down on us we will never be seen as rivals, only ''A mangy mutt that get's out of it's kennel now and again, and nicks a bone or two from the top table, only to be caught again and chained back up by the cruel b...ards''!.

If you went to school in the Dearne Valley in the early 1980s, and you were a Donny fan, you grew up with a visceral hatred of Rotherham and Barnsley.

They were slugging it out at the top of Tier 2. We were bobbing between Tiers 3 and 4.

Every victory over them Kitsons is a balm on my adolescent psychological scars.

Baaarnsley. Maybe due to living the north side of town being closer and, being the first local derby I can remember.

Rotherham came later and I only regarded Scunny as a 2nd rate derby with a club from a different county.
I agree

Rotherham from coming from that side of Town (Conisbrough), York from the epic rivalry in the early '80s.

I'm a little surprised about the amount of people putting Scunny at the top of the list to be honest. Is it a sign that the majority on here have only been following Rover's since our return to the league? I say that because Scunny is only 25 miles away from Donny but back in the 90's prior to our relegation from the football league, myself and my dad never had difficulty getting into Glanford Park for an away fixture. Yes we took a decent amount of fans, but I don't ever recall needing a ticket or the away end, which isn't the biggest, ever being full, although that could of been down to the trend at the time of the wannabe hooligan element of our support going in with the home fans until being escorted out or into the away end during the game.

For me Scunny and Lincoln were the 2 teams I wanted us to beat the most but then I was born in Lincoln and went to secondary school close to Scunny and there were quite a few lads who went to watch them. The time I started watching the Rovers coincided nicely with the great run we're having against the Iron, my first game between us being the 3-1 home win in 93 and my first trip to Glanford Park was the 1-3 win the same season.

I would say the majority on here have been following Rovers since long before the 90's. We're all old gits don't you know

I don't regard Scunny as a rival. That implies they are on our level.

Scunny are like a virus that won't shift.

I'm surprised at the number of people who consider us to be a strong rival of yours, as I thought that Rotherham and Barnsley were your big rivals.

Personally, from a Scunthorpe perspective, it is Grimsby which is the big one, with you lot and Hull vying for secondary rivals. Despite the fact that we've played Grimsby on intermittent occasions in the last 25 years I've always had it drilled into me by my family that Grimsby are our rivalry game. The fact that we've spent the last 10 years above them in the league is one of the few positives right now for an Iron fan.

From my 50+ years of Rovers fandom, it has to be Barnsley. In my early years Scunthorpe and Rotherham were a couple of leagues above us, so we didn't play them. Never seen the Sheffield clubs as rivals, only Leeds over the last few years because of their cockiness.

Aye, I suppose with Grimsby you're fighting it out for "second best town with a Donny postcode".

Late eighties i started supporting Rovers, so hopefully i'm one of the youngest. I remember Scunny fans trying to get across the road up near town fields, Rovers fans on the other side, trying to have a scuffle, they started rocking my dads car.
There's six or seven of them, he turned the car off got out of the car and threatened to do the one nearest to him over, not good odds for him, but that was him all over. He asked him to ''Kindly refrain from rocking my car'' you can imagine the rest, a yorkshire blokes typical language, when somebody gets in the way!.
