Rovers of yesteryear - name the faces
« on January 04, 2016, 01:42:49 pm by Scooter »
A colleague of mine gave me a late Christmas present this morning. She said she bought it for 25p from a market.
I thought it would be a fun quiz to pass the time - can you name them all (the names are on the back of the card to help me although Charlie Williams stands out)

Also can anyone tell me the year please?

I have the same card somewhere. I collected them as a boy but lost them I think it was 1957 or 1958. I'm sure that the Man Unt one was pre Munich which was February 1958.

I can see Gregg , Hardwick , Tindill , Jeffrey , Mc Morran , Graham , Williams , Ronny Walker and Mooney ..  Bill Patterson is not there so he had already left for Newcastle (late  1955) . Where is Brian Makepeace though?

This IS clearly pre Munich (feb 1958) since Harry Gregg is here still.

Two others on there ( I think) Jeff Walker and Morgan Hunt.

I am celebrating my 60 years as a Rovers supporter in a family group of 10 at Keepmoat this coming Saturday.

I'm impressed - you are right with all names mentioned

Thanks Lincs.. in that squad I would have expected to see Brown and Jackie Teasedale in addition to Tank Makepeace but I have to admit I do not recognise them .

A further family  anecdote . This month also marks the 50th anniversary of the time I bought my young brothers their first season tickets for Belle Vue . They will be in our family party of 10 at the Keepmoat this coming Saturday too.

Selby .. I think it was just a bit early for Ray Veall who played in same team as me for Rovers Juniors in 58 and 59. By the way he was recently awarded a Cup Winners medal for his limited appearances for Everton in the year they won the FA cup ... only 50 years late but he was chuffed . He lives in New Zealand .

I think the one bottom left could be Jimmy Kilkenny.

Sorry about this but I thin the one second in on the top row is Makepeace.  I have no idea about the two on the bottom right.

One on the front row could be Arthur Adey , Eddie McMorrans understudy , but not sure which one.
