Where are they now?. I'll start off Stephen Bywater joined Burton until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Loved that 83/84 side. The only squad man I never saw in action was John Bukovenia (sp) .... pretty sure he only appeared once or twice and both were games I didnt attend. That minor fact has always bugged me  :headbang:  :scarf:

Last time I saw Stuart Hicks (who runs a designer clothes shop in Scarboro), he said Mike Jeffrey was a car salesman in Liverpool.
Ian Duerden in the fire service, as well as a electrician.
Is Gav Warboys still a copper?

Stuart Hicks running a boutique! Not something I'd have ever imagined.

I suppose Alan Little works in soft furnishings?

It's a boutique Scarborough RB, so basically it's a clothes shop that doesn't do kiss-me-quick hats

You're in luck Craig, The League Paper did exactly that a year ago.

This isn't a bad place to start.

It's called mainline menswear and it is a fairly big company now so I believe.

Is David Roche still eating porridge?

He got 8 years in 2004 so is most likely out now. I hadn't realised he was actually arrested at a game.

From a Southend forum:
Roche was involved in an incident with the bouncers at a club in Newcastle in which either he or his mate pulled out a gun. He was then transferred from Doncaster to Southend (i.e. a lot further from Newcastle) before the police (or the bouncers and their mates;) had caught up with him.

He was arrested whilst sitting in the East Stand just before the kick-off of a game against Wolves. You may wonder, as I did, if the police (who had travelled all the way from Newcastle) hoped he'd be playing so they could arrest him on the pitch.

When the story came out, quite a few people speculated privately whether Steve Thompson actually knew he was in serious danger of being 'dealt with' by those who were after him (and I don't mean the police) when he signed him. After all, he had mates at Doncaster and knew Roche as a player - therefore he presumably knew that he was an average player 2 divisions below us and not up to the standard of our then level. Anyway, we'll never know....

Roche's bail conditions stipulated that he was not to set foot in Newcastle. However, this ban was lifted for one day so he could attend a relative's funeral. Being an idiot, he then decided to go out drinking, not just anywhere in Newcastle but in the infamous Byker district, where he was spotted and subsequently shot through the kneecaps.

He got about 4 years for the original offence and Southend sacked him because he was not in a position to fulfill the terms of his contract.

The comment about Roche being an average Div 4 player is not really accurate. Had it not been for his extra -curricular activities he would have been a top flight player.

Not sure if Sammy Chung or Uncle Ken did the deal to sell him to Southend, but it was a smart piece of business. I wonder if Southend tried to get their money back?
