What did you think of the ideas of the proposed takeover concepts when at DRFC - would they have been a good thing in your eyes? Why?

Are you pleased to see DRFC doing pretty well with pretty much the same players you signed - most of us thought you'd signed some good uns throughout your tenure - so what do you think stopped em gelling as a unit for two years?

He basically said something along the lines of;

"I'd known John Ryan a while. When Saunders went to Wolves he phoned me up and said would you come (or similar). John said they were giving Brian Flynn the job until the summer, if results went badly it might be sooner"

Just sounded like the whole thing was already done, so the farce comment was mine based on the shite we were fed about 10 point interview process etc.

I didn't see the whole thing but he said John Ryan spoke to him after Saunders left. Dickov said that Ryan told him that they might even bring him in before the end of the season if things started to go wrong under Flynn.

He seemed to basically be saying that he was told the job was his well before the interview process began.

Of course, the job was not totally in JR's gift, but presumably he thought the takeover would go through and JR would effectively have full control.

Dickov mentioned the problems that the failed takeovers caused him, but didn't say anything we didn't know about those.

Dickov always comes across as nice, genuine fella, whether he's at the Retford AGM or the on TV in front of millions. Just a shame he couldn't do a job for us. Hopefully he'll improve as a manager and become successful in the future.

Regarding the "I had been offered the job before the end of the promotion season" comment; JR was probably hopeful at the time of either a takeover going through with him as chairman, or persuading the KM2 Dickov was the best for the job. Turned out to be the latter.

He'd make a fantastic scout. He's got an eye for a player, he just can't get them to work together the way he wants.
