Christ, how dull must it be as a Coventry fan?

4 top 10 finishes in the last 49 years!

They did have 34 years of top flight football and A FA cup win though . I'd settle for that 👍

That Coventry team that won in 1987 must have been the 'worst' (ie fewest stars or folk who went on to have big careers etc) that has won in living memory. Even Wimbledon had plenty of big names in that team eg Beasant, Scales, Fashanu, Wise, Phelan.

Bravo to Coventry.

being extremely sad i still remember coventry beating liverpool in division 1 think it was 3-0 on match of the day Jimmy Hill was the presenter

and hearing all the crapp in the papers next day about the way forward was to buy £30,000 players like Coventry had done

that was their sole moment of +ve fame on match of the day excluding the annual relegation escapes

Must be me then.

Honestly, I'd rather have Chester, Dagenham, Wembley, Brentford and the remorseless steamroller of 2003/04 than any number of years of finishing 17th in the PL.

It's not about absolute position for me. Never has been. It's about the visceral feeling of everything riding on this moment.

I cannot think of anything duller than watching a team that has nothing to compete for when it matters for decade after decade.

EDIT: Although as Coleman says, they did have regular escapes from relegation. But even the attraction of that would fade after a while. Grinding out another 8-win season to have the right to do the same thing the next year ad nauseum isn't the best experience.

For many seasons in the old First Division, they looked relegation certainties going into April. They then usually won four or five games in a row and stay up.

I have a couple of friends who are big Coventry fans. I went to Hillsborough with them for the fa cup quarter and semi finals in the year they won it.

Cant forgive them for ruining the classic Monty Python sketch - "The Communist Quiz" - by winning the effin FA Cup

Have a listen if you have never heard it !
