Coppingers career has coincided with the clubs fortunes really. That's why he's stayed with so long. We were always the right level for him. As we improved up into the championship originally he was improving. He was at his prime when we were at our best in the second tier and as he has regressed a bit and got older we have dropped down the divisions to match that. Next year will probably be his last season.

Backlash in 5, 4, 3...

He is very fit for his age and doing extremely well this season, but I can't see him having the same impact next season if we are in League One. Well worth the 1 year extension though and hope he stays on as captain, but good to have Rowe and Grant as options to play further forward/infield if he's not making the same impact.

It's just a very strange game Nick, predicting the end of Coppinger. Many have played before and many (all) have failed.

Like the bit in the interview where he referred to his 'legs have gone'. Have a funny feeling he's read some of these comments over the years.

He's had a good season this year and he's fit enough but I think the 4th division is his level now.

People say it as they see it..I had a pop at Copps last year...I thought he had a very poor season last year and I didn't think his captaincy was good enough either when we were struggling so I don't make any apologies for questioning whether father time was catching up with him...
But I'm also the first to admit he has been outstanding this season for us and well worth a contract extension....

The way Coppinger and most of the squad played last year compared to this one is making me think...

Can ATS end up being a decent player for us when he's back..

I'd prefer to see an upgrade on Butler for next season (I realise we already have Wright) but he will provide a bit of experience and strength in the squad.

Butler also came in for stick last year, with people saying he was too slow...That's not been evident this year either so you could argue its the level we are playing is masking one or two things...
When it comes to ATS I just hope that he is given a clean slate with the fans, its one thing discussing whether players are still good enough on here but the vocal abuse he suffered was a embarrassment to us frankly....

No,in fact in the match against Burton when he got injured, he was our best player. Then the pillocks took over as he came off.

This..

For much of last season, ALL the squad was off it.. form, confidence was at a low ebb during that run..

Put the same players (Copps, ATS, Williams etc) in a winning team, in good form and full of confidence in League 1, and they'll do a damned sight better than last season.

The abuse our players receive off 'fans' winds me up no end. People who can't kick a ball straight berating healthy young lads who do it day in day out. As long as the effort is there that's fine with me.

Have to shake my head at some of these comments. ATS was dire last season, absolutely dire in fact. Don't get mistaken because you saw him put in a half-decent 60 minutes on the telly. He and Evina contributed to the worst defensive distribution we've possibly ever seen. Never mind the fact they couldn't go a game without conceding a goal.

Does that mean he can't turn things round? Absolutely not, and I genuinely hope he does and I am fully willing to give him a chance in a team on the up. McCullough and Mandeville are two good examples of players who have had a sudden up-turn in form, so it can happen.

Agree with your sentiment on ATS WC but playing at a lower level didn't improve Cedric.

No way will ATS get any leeway from the knobs who jeered him as he limped off against Burton.
As for Copps playing "at his level" this season, ridiculous comment.
The man will be just as influential for us next season.
Butler doesn't look slow this season compared to last?
Do players in L1 run faster than players in L2.

You can guarantee when Copps walks out on to the pitch he'll give everything and that will still be too much for many League One defenders.

Again, DF will manage his game time to make sure he gets the best from him.
