Saw him at Glasto, what a showman. Didn't he do well!

He was from a generation of tv presenters when you could sit down on a Saturday night enjoy the show on bbc1 > generation game been a classic >

Play your cards right was well worth the watch aswell.

What on earth has happened to the easy going fun watching TV game shows that would keep you in ,as it's all a load of shirt what they have replaced it with .

I thought it was great as Bruce hyped up the higher\lower part and it had to taking part by shouting higher/lower from your front room aka > front room participation > .

I'll probably be shot down with "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" but here goes:

Although it's awful for his family to lose him and I wouldn't wish I'll on him or them I was always amazed that he had a long career on prime time TV. He was a crap singer, wooden actor and not at all funny. I know he had a reputation as a lovely bloke and plaudits for that but it doesn't make him entertaining. I always thought he must have some serious incriminating intel on the BBC top brass to keep getting lucrative deals.

He was a proper old fashioned music hall type  entertainer jack of all trades perhaps master of none but loved what he did and loved by the public however I might be slightly biased as  I did work with him on occasions

I noticed on the tribute to him on the news that he first appeared on tv in 1939 - before most people had a tv!

I think that his main asset was working with the public. Having a bit of banter and putting them at ease on tv. He could certainly ad lib and keep a show moving. I didn't like his singing mediocre dancing or jokes but he was entertaining in other ways.
Far better than the later version that was Michael Barrymore, he tried to be just the same as Bruce with his act and his quiz shows.

Bob monkhouse was another good TV games show presenter ,think it was the golden arrow that was great to watch.

As for Bruce the part in the generation game where a person would sit on a stool and watch untold possible prizes pass by him/her on a conveyor belt in a short amount of time > for him/her to recall and win in 30secs as they shouted out.


That was great tv to watch and you you at home shouting out with all your family members at whatever o'clock on a Saturday night.

I can't think of one to show today that brings exact same effect .

I think you mean The Golden Shot. It'd be a great show to bring back, especially with technology now probably meaning people at home could control the studio crossbow from home. However, I think the days of crossbows being fired in TV studios have now gone...
