Our Legends' Gallery .. incomplete .
« on December 31, 2017, 12:21:05 pm by graingrover »
There are few of my generation on here but any of you who are old enough to remember Tindill and Gregg ? I feel our Legends' Gallery is incomplete without them . Tindill played 401 games and scored 122 goals for us from 1944- 1958 . When Peter Doherty vacated the Manager's position t Rovers to take over at Bristol City his first action was to sign Bert !
I know the club is in contact with Harry Gregg who is in his late 80's and he too was an outstanding player for us and then of course a surviving hero of the Man U Munich aircrash in 1958.

I am not old enough to have seen either of them play for Rovers ( Born 1955 ) although I did see Harry Gregg play for Man U in the early 1960’s
But Tindall should surely be on the Legends Gallery. Did Gregg play long enough for Rovers to warrant that status. I am not sure. Open to debate I suppose.

He played long enough to become an international player while with us, and command a world record fee  when transfered to Man. U.
Before making the first team, he was kept out of the side by a goalkeeper who also deserves recognition, the great Ken Hardwick, who famously was picked for an England under 23s squad while at the ripe old age of 33, and kept Gregg out of the first team, playing in the Midland League second team for quite a while.
We were a good side at that  time, not a lucky team, losing some of our best players to career ending injuries, and one of the worst, if not the worst chairman in the clubs history.

My Mum certainly watched them. She loves to talk about those great players. Still enjoys watching our younger generation of players though.
She unfortunately had a heart attack on 23 Dec and was in Coronary Care Unit at DRI until Friday. She's ok thankfully. Amidst all the tests being done on her she was more interested in how Rovers were getting on at Bristol!!

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your Mum - I think she would agree ....

... Harry Gregg should be in.

Good luck to your mum. She isn't Sheila the drug dealer is she?
A nickname coined on a supporters week-end away.

I shall mention Bert Tindill to the club too. I fear that Harry is the only surviving member of the team that read Gregg Makepeace Graham Brown Patterson Teasdale Ron Walker Tindill McMorran Jeffrey Mooney .
If and when interviewed he could add a lot to the club's recorded memories of that team and of Peter Doherty who brought Harry to Donny and of cause the comedian Charlie. So important to capture video recorded interviews from ex players wherever possible .

Just an idea, why doesn't the club ask Harry Gregg to do an interview and ask Dutch Uncle to conduct said interview. Harry lives in Portstewart, and DU is very articulate and could ask the right questions, just an idea.

Andrew is dealing with the Gregg invite and I will pass it on to him . The idea is to get Gregg over but if he is unable to travel and Dutch agrees that is a good idea .

My Dad remembers both Tindall and Gregg and saw them play many games.

Sadly he (my Dad), now suffers from Alzheimer's and so has very little recollection of the ten years he went to the majority of home games at the KM with me. He remembers key players, such as Coppinger, Sharp, Green and Sullivan, but would admit to having no chance of naming a passed ten years XI.
