It's the link from Coleman's Left Hook just a little bit above our correspondence at the foot of Pg 3 of this thread.BobPS DW: the grass looks pretty rubbish on the link to that one above doesn't it?! And how come the Main Stand and behind has been fogged out? Wonder what was so secret in 1935.........

Thanks Wolfie. Interesting. Wish my old Dad was around still. Or Dutch Uncle's. They might well have known. And, my humble apologies to Coleman. I really have no idea at all why I attributed your link to Roversdude. I'm going to blame studying for an interview on Monday - but there's no excuse really is there?BobG

Wonder what was so secret in 1935.........think someone who shall remain nameless (for the moment) deserves a mention on my thread about radio sheffield mistakes the link says "Doncaster, crowds at the racecourse, 1953"that's another £5 i'm owed for spotting the deliberate mistakehttp://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/eaw049621?search=doncaster&ref=342note the trees have leaves on looks like a flat meeting possibly Leger Week ? would make more sense to sell the aerial photo as a view during leger week = more profit on sales
Afraid I can't shed any definitive light on the 1935 advertising, although Oakwell Ales had a long history of advertising at the RoversOne other advertisement on the main stand in the 1980's always made me laugh - and that was for Plas-Vent (double glazing? plumbing? ducting?). As a Dutch speaker I know well that 'plas', although meaning a lake, is colloquially used for taking a pee. 'Vent' is also a colloquial word for bloke or guy - so although it doesn't actually exist in Dutch - plas-vent always looked like 'piss-head' to me. I am sure Graingrover would know enough Flemish to agree.
I have a terrible feeling that the poor bloke died as the result of his injuries. I may be wrong though.
saw this in the Looking Back at Doncaster group on fbEarly 80's?
