An Alternative View

Before the Walsall game, we drew the previous four away games against four of the top eight teams in the league. 
At the same time, we drew with Plymouth and Charlton at home - these teams were also in the top half of the table and both were top of the form table.
That leaves Bristol Rovers, who are also on a good run and took advantage of the fact that we had lost our three central defenders in the space of a week and we had no adequate replacements. 
There are easier games to come in the next few weeks and we will be judged on how we get on in the next few games. A good win against Fleetwood on Saturday and moving into the top half of the table will put a different complexion on things and a scrappy last minute win at Rotherham may see Fergie as a candidate for Manager of the Month!!

Agreed, but the problem most people seem to have is the manager doesn't help himself and if he did maybe we'd be a bit better off now?

agree that its not as bad as been made out but you've got to expect that after losing 4-0 and not winning or really looking like winning for a long time...

There were games that were on paper easier than the ones we had played during 'that' run two years ago. Shat the bed in most if not all of them, the Easter capitulation in particular.

DF's not an idiot. He's probably as hacked off as anyone about points we've dropped. Plymouth, a winnable game, was two points dropped. His reaction to the last minute penalty incident sort of said as much. Bristol Rovers was very unfortunate; again an eminently winnable game but where injuries did for us. And Walsall, a game where we really should have been looking to take a point minimum.

Add that lot up and we could have been 6 points better off, making us all feel a bit better.

But, frustration aside, the team has to be set up better in some of these games. Playing a back 3 in this League with two rookie centre backs is just asking for it. And with a rookie midfielder in Kongolo who clearly struggles with DF's formations and instructions we put ourselves under so much pressure. My advice to Darren would be to keep it very simple for the players - 442 - and encourage them to perform. Tactics and formations won't of themselves win you games - players will - but if you get them wrong they can you lose you matches.

Good post there BigH, I agree with everything you said and whilst Fergie isn't an idiot, he's certainly shown he's a slow learner.

There are people  that on here seem to all be football managers,i would sooner stick with what DF is doing and think theres a reason for his selections and systems,Hes been in football and worked under the best for  many a year now,so i will give him the benift of his judgement to get us out of this mess which although not great its not yet critical.
